Nice...don't forget the 20-minute Pilot presentation footage!

Although he never made use of it, Michael was also wearing the "correct" Comlink in the pilot.

Yes, once they went back and filmed the rest of the Pilot, that (among other things) was corrected. But it makes me wonder if Glen Larson had always intended Michael to have the Comlink from the get-go as a means to communicate with K.I.T.T. as it seems to be an afterthought once the series got greenlit. There is no scene written showing when Michael receives it, nor does he ever actually use it, as you pointed out.
I believe maybe in some of the novels and a comic book, Michael communicated with K.I.T.T. via a microchip implanted in his brain (although I know it's not considered canon).

I remember an interview with David Hasslehoff a long time ago, where he takes credit for the Com-Watch.
I think I recall him saying that he during an early audition or sceen, they asked him to talk to KITT (who was not present for audition purposes), and he just riased his and talked into it. Apparently everyone liked it and put it in.
I think he also said something about not really knowing what was going on.
Im not sure if the rest of the production crew will agree with this, but Im sure it is what he said.

It looks like the outdoor style that can take a pounding. I wear something similar, as it's the only thing that outlives a week in my line of work.

Yes, in the comic/activity books that's how they communicated, I always found it kind of bizarre, I love KITT but I wouldn't want him in my brain like that. the Comlink is fine for me.
