And yet after it found those 5mil they stayed tuned in, even up against those factors and then a certain reality show. Add in how well it's doing in foreign markets too and I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Also, shows that came on after have been announced as cancelled and our's hasn't.

Hey everyone, about the LA Times article from May 5, I had e-mailed the reporter about whether Ben Silverman actually SAID that Knight Rider was "gone forever" as in the last sentence of her article. Her e-mail in response is below.

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: Fernandez, Maria Elena <Maria.Elena.Fernandez@latimes.com>
Date: Wed, May 13, 2009 at 3:47 PM
Subject: RE: Ben Silverman at NBC
To: FLAGCEO

Hi!

Thanks for reading and writing. Those shows were not mentioned at all.

THANKS.

From: FLAGCEO

Subject: Ben Silverman at NBC

Dear Ms. Fernandez

I have a quick question about the very end of your May 5th article regarding NBC's fall line up. You wrote:

"On Monday, Silverman said "Life," starring Damian Lewis, has been canceled. Also gone forever are
"Lipstick Jungle," "Kath & Kim," "Knight Rider," "Kings," "My Own Worst Enemy" and "Crusoe." "

The second sentence - as to the other shows "gone forever" - did Ben Silverman actually name these shows - particularly "Knight Rider" and "Kings", or is that based on other sources?

There is a debate in some of the blogs about whether your article actually says that Silverman SAID these other shows (by name) were not returning, or that you obtained that from sources other than Mr. Silverman himself.

Thanks,
FLAGCEO

So... I think there's still hope for May 19th, particularly since NO ONE at NBC will actually come out and SAY whether KR is coming back or not.
Bring Knight Rider back for Season 2!!

I say we make a pact. If it comes back in some form we should arrange some way in which we can all celebrate, one little thing we all can do around the globe and each take a picture of it. Whether it's simply a photo of a big grin, or of each of us jumping into the air in joy, and then we can post these either on here or somewhere else with a link from here incase it'd be too much of a strain on the KRO servers.

:D :D :D :D :D

On the flip side, if it's cancelled we'll cross that bridge when we come to it - I can see letters to Sci-Fi ;) lol.

Why don't we also have a huge kick-off party on the date S2 airs if we get a second season? We could have an announcement party and a kick-off party.

And if we don't get a second season, let's party anyway celebrating Knight Rider - because it never really left! :)

Sooooooo....the writer of the article made this up??? She ASSUMED that because the shows weren't mentioned they were goners???

Isn't that false information? Couldn't the author of that article get sued for that?

What a bunch of lard.

well so can every other media outlet that has said it was canceled can too, but it's moot.

i think if we all took a picture of our TV's showing the S2 premiere (if it happens) and then post them it would be cool.. i could make some sort of map showing where they're from or something.

I'm not sure most of the online magazines and blogs fall under any system of journalistic standards and ethics, but larger media like Entertainment Weekly, TV Guide, and the LA Times certainly should. I wonder if Knight Rider is renewed whether these writers will get a slap on the wrist or at least be seen as less credible by the public.

All this reminds me of the 1948 Presidential election where the Chicago Tribune already printed the front page headline that "Dewey Defeats Truman" even though Truman had in fact won the election. Truman's defeat was predicted by political analysts, polls, and "conventional wisdom". In our case, entertainment writers, ratings, and "conventional wisdom" based on all the rumors. Truman, in fact, won election by a 303-189 majority.

Man, NBC must not like Knight Rider or they'd approve it already. They have to start filming sometime soon so we can watch in September, or it's going to be a mid sweeps release in Jan.

I don't think that's the case. The reason why they are (most probably) shutting down the production is because of the ratings and the lack of improvement. Do you really think that Knight Rider would not have been an absolute choice for the network if it had the same amount of viewers like for instance American Idol? I don't think so.

I agree. If the show would have got good ratings, because of good writing and leadership, then we wouldn't be in the place we currently are, on pins and needles. But who's to say that the writers aren't working, without official support, to get scripts in place, and ready to go IF the word is given?

NBC could have given us a Cancellation order, via My Own Worst Enemy, and that would have been that. If we do find out that KR has not been renewed, I would have wished that NBC would have done that to us instead of making us wait for nothing.

Other programmes on NBC have been officially announced as cancelled for some time now, but none of them have any real foreign appeal. Knight Rider does and it's still in limbo. I agree, if it's cancelled I'll want to know why they didn't say before now along with the rest.

Follow up to my post on the ratings of the already and hastily renewed Southland from last week. Southland is now doing WORSE than KR in total viewers and its demos aren't very good either, I wonder bother with the whole time slot difference and all that, it doesn't change the fact that the show's ratings have sunk and will probably go lower though maybe with potentially weaker competition next week they might go back up. I wonder if NBC will or is able to change their mind about bringing it back this fall.

Here are some other sources that claim Knight Rider is cancelled. It's only three days until we know for sure.
http://www.moviehole.net/200919103-more ... s-pick-ups

http://www.themustangnews.com/fomoco_09 ... ne-528.htm

I particularly like the article on "themustangnews". I enjoyed the new Knight Rider, and I wouldn't say it as explicit as the author does. And some things were not that bad, like the actors or Kilmer as KITT. I kinda liked them. But the bottom line is right.

Did anyone even notice that the weekly thriller featuring a Shelby GT-500KR that can morph into an F-150, Fusion or an aquarium was missing from the nightly schedule? NBC has indeed killed the show after only 17 heart stopping episodes, in the middle of the production season.

Yes, we will have to do without one more brain cell-depleting display of bad acting, vacant writing and B-Grade computer generated graphics. It is sad really that this show was so awfully bad. And make no mistake, it was baaaaad! Even Sponge Bob has more intelligence, intellectual stimulation and creativity and that show is made to appeal to the youngest of viewers. And I don’t have to worry as much about Sponge Bob teaching my kids to be brainless self-absorbed sluts.

The show’s only positive contribution was the great car. It looked good, sounded good and made the show borderline acceptable to leave on while you were sitting by on your laptop scrutinizing your E-Trade account. There were just enough exhaust notes dubbed in and just enough driving sequences to keep the channel from being turned to CSPAN or re-runs of Frasier.

The show’s cancellation means that we wont likely be seeing Michael Tracuer driving a new 2010 Shelby GT-500 this summer. That was something I was looking forward to. Ok, not really. But I will say that this show was an opportunity lost.

Imagine what could have been if this show was constructed around a more mature audience, a more realistic set of plot lines, and a writing staff that was older than 13. Imagine if it had been a show like 24 which grabs you by the aorta and keeps you planted for an hour each week.

Take the style and gravity of Jack Bauer, add in some relevant and believable plot lines and this could have been a winner. The car itself could have even lost some of its goofy features, fakery and downright lame morphs. Val Kilmer and his Nancy-Boy voice could have been left in the dust bin of washed up actors. Imagine sort of a modern day Rockford Files with a killer car, some awesome driving, and a modern set of bad guys (but without the orange contact lenses).

Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda. NBC surely already has another hour of crap to replace it in the can and ready to go.

KR is about lost opportunities. It had so much potential and because they blew it, we won't see KR in a loooong time now. That makes me sad

Well, apparently Knight Rider did fantastically well over here in the UK on its debut... hopefully that trend will continue throughout the series. I downloaded all the episodes as they aired, and im still watching again to do my part for the ratings.

I think here, we wont have any re-scheduling issues either, which can only be a good thing. SciFI have advertised it well, and continue to do so, and hopefully if they stick to the schedules and dont move it around, those ratings will continue. In the US, it suffered because they did drop the show for weeks at a time and didnt bother to really advertise it.

Lets see how it goes because it may be what the show needs to get picked up for a season 2

The pilot had good ratings in the US as well. But with the start of the series and the new direction from Gary Scott Thompson it went downhill.
All Knight Rider fans will stick through it, but the average TV viewer won't turn in again when the first couple of episodes are bad. And face it, KR had a rough start, only with the retooling the show got better.
So I fear a drop of ratings is very likely.

That's the reason why we need a season 2, so they can make everything better, fullfil our expectations and don't let the fans down. This is the only chance Knight Rider has a future.

In my own opinion Justin could have done a much better job. He was too stiff in the role. No reactions during a turbo boost etc. Not to compare Justin and the Hoff but the Hoff owned the character. It's almost like Justin was trying to be too cool, but to me it just looked like he diden't get the character of Michael Knight. I realise it is 20+ years later and the same cornball stuff would not be cool like it used to be but for me personally his performance was not as good as it could of been.

You have to realize that the character Justin played WAS NOT Michael Knight, not as David Hasselhoff played him. There's none of the baptism by fire that the original MK got during the first ep. The new character had no big reason to fight this fight, except the death of his mother. Over the course of the season, he did start to realize the position he was in, the good that can come from it. But it's not the same character as depicted in 82.

And the fact the hes Micheal Knights son, which of course they sorta of never brought up again after the 1st episode

But towards the end of the season there,I felt like he was turning out to be just like dear old dad

Its also after the reboot that I started to notice the close connection between KITT and Justin, or the way Justin started to act like DH used to. as if some one told him "did you have a look at how DG used to play MK??? go have a second look".
but we cant just put it on Justin, GST did his part of screwing the show. Image :kitt:
