Re: Somebody needs a Knight 4000 Coyote X Car
This was going to be a stunt car that was to be built for Knight Rider 2000.
Unfortunately, the car builders had so much trouble with their other cars -- this one
never got completed.
This particular car was intended for small jumps and drifting.
The beauty car was behind schedule -- so they concentrated on finishing it instead of this "jump car."
As it was, the "boat car" kept sinking everytime it was put in water. The KR2000 TV movie was a mess
when it came to the star cars.
When they started filming KR2000 -- none of the KR4000 cars were ready. The '57
Chevy was a late addition to the script to compensate.
The original intent of the KR2000 movie was to be an action packed -- turbo boost fest. They had so
many technical problems with the cars..... the movie got totally watered down on an action standpoint.
The horribly cast female lead also contributed -- to lead Knight Rider 2000 to become another UNSOLD
pilot.

Re: Somebody needs a Knight 4000 Coyote X Car
Actually, that car had nothing to do with Knight Rider 2000, other than they used the Knight 4000 mold. This car was most likely Jay Ohrberg's Tasmanian Devil car:
There's a thread about it here:
http://www.knightneutralzone.proboards. ... thread=131
I think the ad must be wrong, this car couldn't have been in Hardcastle...as that's the K4000 mold which wasn't made until 1990...maybe the chassis was, but not the body.

Re: Somebody needs a Knight 4000 Coyote X Car
Sorry, Joe.
Regardless of the car's history after KR2000: The pilot (AKA Tasmanian Devil).
That was one of the original stunt vehicles on Hardcastle. A friend of mine who
worked in the props department for KR2000 in Texas confirmed that was the intended/
unfinished "jump vehicle" for the KR2000 pilot movie.
Not a big shock -- KR2000 was a train wreck. They had grand plans that were
horribly executed. The car was barely ready by the end of principle photography.
They should of built the cars far earlier.
Movie cars are constantly reconfigured for different movie roles. Cars from Blade
Runner showed up in Back to the Future II. The body was different in Hardcastle
(obviously) -- but its a legit claim on eBay.

- Would you be so kind as to explain the context of the term "jump vehicle" you are using? Do you mean built to perform turbo boost jumps or something else?HisNameisGarth wrote:Sorry, Joe.

Re: Somebody needs a Knight 4000 Coyote X Car
hi, i ended up buying the car.........and i think it's way cool. i would love to talk to the gentleman in texas who can verify the car was also on hardcastle and mc cormick. i'm also certain that it was.......but "hearing it from the horses mouth" is always great. the car is almost complete in its restoration (sans ohrberg's taz on the back..........sorry, can't deal with that). you can see the similarities to the hardcastle coyote x on volocars.com ad for another coyote x stunt car. maybe the gentelman in tx can tell me how the car ended up in vegas. i'm trying to find the correct tailights for it presently. how many cars were they going to make for kr 2000 ? did ohrberg configure the cars for hardcastle and kr 2000 also...........or just the taz-mobile ?? any other info on this car would be greatly appreciated. kr rules !! tomo ...........long beach, ca

Re: Somebody needs a Knight 4000 Coyote X Car
Yes -- a jump vehicle is a specially built car for small jumps.
The original Knight Rider series used a dune buggy with a fiberglass Trans Am shell over it -- it was the stunt car that had the flat panel underneath that could be seen during jumps.
Hardcastle and McCormick had a similar dune buggy that again was used for small jumps (usually less than 30 feet).
The TV Series Viper also built a "jump car" based on a Dodge Dakota chassis for its syndicated episodes. It was jumped about a half dozen times (for the first time in the episode "Winner Take All" -- for the last time in "Safe as Houses")
The Dukes of Hazzard just bought used cars and trashed each one for the jumps. These other shows had built reusable "jump" vehicles for smaller jumps.
