A Mustang is not normally good a rough terrain, then that is the reason way KITT turns into a truck.

TOS KITT didn't have to transform to go off road...

Quoting from wikipedia here:

"High Traction Drop Downs - When activated, the HTDD system hydraulically raises KITT's chassis for better traction when driving off-road. First used in Episode 39, "Speed Demons"."

He could also inflate and deflate his tires, making them bigger and smaller.

What I'm saying is if KITT from twenty years ago could do it, then surely this KITT has have something similar, probably even better. They would have improed on the old KITT.

I just don't think the transformations are neccessary. The big ones mostly.

Hey, Quick Reply is back!

I think that the transformations were a part of the Ford contract, and I have a feeling that part of the "reboot" is due to that portion, or clause, of Ford's contract expiring. They've used the transformations to advertise a few of their vehicles a certain number of times, and that portion of the advertising is probably over.

As such, I don't think we'll see any vehicle transformations after this. Additionally, a lot of situations in which the transformations were used could have been done without them - for instance, I think it's "Knight of the Zodiac" in which Mike has to blow a safe and KI3T is the display vehicle inside the casino. The use of a different Ford vehicle there was pure advertising, and completely unnecessary.

As for HTDD....I'm sure that KI3T has something comparable - we probably just won't see it used as an effect. I can't say that I want to see KI3T with the huge Viper off-road tires...

I wondered about that scene too. The car that he turned into was less impressive than the GT500KR. It didn't seem like that great of a prize in comparison.

We'll see if the FORD contract has expired or not soon.

I don't know if the contract, per se, will expire - but I figure that there was a paragraph or a statement in there somewhere saying that there will be X transformations in X episodes, or something like that. As such, I figured that the writers had to write around the transformations. That part may expire after they've done the required number of transformations for advertising purposes, but as for the main contract.....well, in short, I don't think we'll see the GT500KR logo disappear from the headrests.

No... you're prolly right about that... But still, I'll deal with it for more subtle transformations, if they don't get rid of the outright.

Note that what I've said about the Ford contract is pure speculation, so I hope nobody quotes me on it. My statements are just what I personally think may have happened - it's plausible, but in no way proven.

No, I'm not going to hold you to this. It's just rumors. But... KITT din't have a fancy transformation for the KARR episode. Did he have one in the two-parter? If not, then I think we are on to something...

He didn't, which is why I'd made the suggestion in another thread somewhere. I think this is all part of the retooling. We don't know if KI3T will actually lose the full transformation ability, but I think it won't be forced into any more storylines. Not transforming worked very well for those episodes. But we have to wait and see what happens in future episodes - from what I understand (I might have this wrong), the episode order has been changed for the final episodes so it's really up in the air now. I'm not even sure if the current order in which we've seen the show is valid, as networks commonly air episodes in an arbitrary manner.

I guess we'll see what happens on Wednesday...

IO think that's exactly what they should called it after all the only real advantage we have seen of the so called attack mode is the extra speed and that's all...

Umm... Correct me if I am wrong here but the OP of this thread was not to ask whether people liked or not the "Attack mode" but whether it should be named Persuit mode as the one in the TOS was... :?

Both Attack Mode in KR08 and Super Pursuit Mode in S4 of TOS were too much of a stretch of the laws of physics. Subtle changes such as to improve traction in off-road driving or increase aerodynamic efficiency by reducing air drag would be far more convincing than a gigantic intake rising out of the engine compartment which appears to be so large as to not leave room for an engine when retracted. Even with SPM in TOS, the hardware required to change the body configuration was so large and bulky as to require stationary transformation shots of a non-operational vehicle due to no room being left inside the shell for vital operational parts (power train, etc.). Optical illusions attributed to photo-refractive capabilities of the Nanoskin for stealth/camouflage are far more believable than large mass-altering shape changes. The ability to change colors or appear to be other similarly-sized Ford vehicles (limited to mid-sized two-door coupe configurations) would work well. Perhaps even casting the illusion of being an earlier year of Mustang as someone else mentioned. I've seen Mustang T-Tops before, although I'm not aware of whether that option is offered on the 08 or 09 model. Some kind of power sunroof arrangement for TOS-style rooftop stunts such as escaping from a hostage situation in another vehicle into the safety of KI3T's interior or entering another vehicle for the purpose of wrestling control of that vehicle from some villain would be a great addition for a second-season KI3T appearance makeover. Having to enter and/or exit via windows for stunts just seems more General Lee than KITT, IMHO.
