Glen Larson is quoted as saying "We agreed the film would be a darker, edgier version of the series, somewhere between 'Knight Rider' and 'Sin City'." (Hollywood Reporter, May 9 2006). That seemed like such a strange description to me, because I don't really consider the two stories to be in the same genre. If he had said "Between Knight Rider and Mad Max" or even "Batman Begins" it would have made more sense to me. But a film noir gore flick like Sin City? Why?

As it turns out, the Weinstein Co. is working on Sin City 2. It suddenly all came together. I think Larson was doing a bit of low-key promotion for the studio, or at the very least simply had Sin City on his mind after spending a lot of time with the production company.

He may mean in terms of violence and swearing, maybe?

It's going to be a violent version of KR.

I think tone is distinct from violence.

I would say The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi are equally violent, but Jedi has a much lighter tone than Empire. Tone has more to do with the "mood" of the film: how desperate are the characters? Do they make questionable moral choices? Is the world they live in optimistic or pessamistic?

As a series, Knight Rider was pretty light-hearted (obviously Scent of Roses is one notable exception). It was intentionally tongue-in-cheek. I would expect that the new movie won't have any slapstick in it; the humor will be a little drier. Assuming they do a new origin story, Michael Knight might have more character flaws. In the series, Michael was more motivated by Justice than Revenge (he warned Tanya not to shoot the glass, essentially trying to save the life of the woman who nearly killed him). Maybe in the movie revenge will be a bigger factor; he might dare Tanya to shoot him, knowing the glass is bulletproof. Visually. there will probably be more night scenes, and people walking around in shadows. I don't know- but these are all things that determine the tone of a movie.

I am sure that in ADDITION to that, there will be more violence and some cursing in the movie. The PG-13 rating is probably the sweet spot for appealing to the broadest audience and they'll need to add something to avoid a G rating (although they'd have a better shot at the kiddie crowd with a flat PG).

With all this stuff coming out about the movie I am not so sure it will be that good. I personally don't like a lot of violence or cursing. They may aim for a PG-13 but the movie people have to review it then make a rating. I am sure it will come out as PG-13 though as I know Glen would want some younger viewers. As far as the "remake" everyone is talking this movie will have, I probably won't go see it. Later down the road if it comes out on one of the movie channels I will watch it just to see what it is about, but I am not paying to go see it, if it comes out like they are talking about. I also thought about this too and I wondered if anyone else did, Bonnie was NOT in the pilot. So, why are they talking about actresses to get to play her part?

Larson never specifically mentions "tone" in that quote, only that it would be much more "darker" and "edgier" which led me to believe that he compared it to Sin City for it's mood.

If you want to talk about style then I very much doubt it will turn out to be a B&W violent action flick.

Sin City had that style for a reason ie it was trying to have a comic book style effect since it was adapted from the comics themselves.

LuvKITT, nobody even knows if they are remaking the pilot yet so they may cast Bonnie for another reason.

I agree with you on the violence part, only that I do like violence in a film if it's story and style calls for it.

It won't suit KR, in my opinion.

is the movie going to be a newer version of the pilot? I thought that they were going to continue where the show left off but in a darker version.

That's why I said IF they do the movie that way...hehe.

Swearing and violence doesn't bother me all that much. If the movie has it, it won't stop me from seeing it. (Though I don't go to theatres, I buy the DVDs when they come out). I like some realism in movies. KR was cool, for it's time. But this is the 21st Century. Things are different and so things are also made different. Time moves on. Things change. I still look forward to the movie regardless. I guess I would even have wanted it to be rated "R". Even then it wouldn't bother me, if it's done right.

We both know that the Knight Rider: Movie will not have a 2007/08 Trans Am in the film so they should have instead a 07/08 chevrolet corvette. I can see K.I.T.T. being a Corvette.
