It was a good show. It was only on for a year, then another station picked
it up and ran it for another 2 or 3. I don't recall.
Could have done without Frankie and his "Poke out my eye" comments
every episode!.

I loved Viper....it ran in 1994 on NBC, then was picked up a year or two later in syndication for another 3 years. I'm hoping it comes out on DVD soon.
Here's about the only site I can find on the net about it:

I got to watch the NBC version of Viper back in 1994. It was used to promote the Doge Viper the same way Knight Rider helped promote the newly restyled Pontiac Firebirds back in 1982. The big difference was that Vuiper did not talk. But it was able to go from two wheel to four wheel drive in a few seconds.

I enjoyed the first season of Viper on NBC in 1994. I didn't really follow the show much once it was resurrected, though. I didn't like how they changed the cast and added that annoying red cop light to the Defender. But naturally, I'd always compare the show to Knight Rider, as they were both similar in nature. And I always remembered thinking how it was never as good. I also did get to see the screen used Defender at the New York Auto Show at the Javits Center in Mahattan that year.
I've got a few pictures somewhere and I'll post a link once I find and scan them.

Actually that 'cop car light' was only used in the pilot, cause the car was developed for the police. But when the creator and the driver took the car from the police and used it covertly they stopped using the light. I have pics of the red viper and the Defender (silver viper) and the 2 main stars of the 2nd season Jeff Kaake (tom cole) and Heather Medway (cameron westlake) from some MADD (mothers against drunk driving) promotion. I just have to upload em to my online photo account. Ill do that tomorrow, as it is almost 3am here at the time of this posting

I've seen episodes in the later seasons (with the new cast) and that light was definitely there. Maybe you're only talking about the NBC version...

NBC thought the show could make it, that it only lasted 12 episodes, then Paramount and Danny bilson and Paul Demeo decided to make it they way they wanted, the car was supposed to have machine guns on the NBC season. NBC said not a good idea, and that idea was scrapped. It was then syndicated and the rest is just a bunch of tension between the characters.

Yeah, when it was picked up later, the car had such a minor role in the show, it was stupid. The took it out at the end of the episode, shot crap up, credits rolled. It was dumb. But the first season was really cool. I loved the way the normal viper kinda melted into its...battle form or whatever.

i know him and talk to him on msn all the time, he made a new improved defender, go to
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/showthr ... t=viper+tv and you'll see what we have done with Viper, it depends on what season of Viper you've seen. Season one which was on NBC i found was alot cooler, reason I want those clips from
http://www.viperhq.com is because thoughs were the first clip i had ever seen for the show that were nice, and i seen on this site, that website was link was on here.

While we're talking about the series, I have a question about the car itself. What car, if any, was the Defender built off of? For years I've wondered if it was constructed the same way as the Knight 4000 (as in being built out of a Dodge Stealth). And I doubt it was made off of an existing Viper.
nope

it was made by dodge, from scratch. I have pictures of it from its clay conception
