I bought this Corgi Pontiac Firebird S/E toy from an internet auction. When I got it I noticed something that obviously points to Kitt.
Look at this picture:

What is that odd red bar painted on the hood? Reminds me of something... hmm..
I think this is a cheap try to make a Kitt model. Well, the hood is wrong style but anyway. Nice car, but I'm going to repaint it because the original paint is worn out.

To me it looks like the previous owner painted the red bar himself. Doesn't look like it came from the factory. But that's just my opinion.

Cool toycar I too have black Majorette 1/62 scale Trans-Am toycar that I made look like KITT since I didn't have any real KITT toys in the 80's. I didn't paint it though, I used red sticker.

I thought you might think so, but no. The red bar is definitely original factory print. It's a bit fuzzy and a little bit too much on the left (prints in cheap toy cars usually are out of place). It's maybe hard to see from the picture, but when seen with plain eye it's very obvious.

Btw, is it normal that this car has bigger rear wheels than those in front?

If the car has a friction motor at the back then its probably normal to have bigger wheels there. Otherwise I don't know what to make of it.

It doesn't have any kind of motor, it's a small model (about 1:62).

I have one of these too, and its original.

The red bar one the bonnet & larger rear wheels mark it out from the standard Firebird S/E on which it is based. I forgotton what packaging it came in though, its a long while ago & being a kid at the time it went straight in the bin.
