Remember in "Goliath" from Season 2 when KITT was damaged by Goliath and Michael had to adapt KITT into some sort of high speed ramjet to get them both out the desert?

Well KITT was doing well over 200+ so in theory it was almost like SPM but except that KITT wasn't designed for that kind of Speed back then and henceforth some of his circuits were malfunctioning! but it was well cool that he could reach that speed, even though KITT wasn't driving in a straight line!

We Only had to wait until Season 4 when KITT is almost destroyed this time by the Juggernaut and then Bonnie had designed KITT with the 40% increase in speed hence SPM was born!!!!!

* I would just like to point out that I didn't like it when KITT got badly damaged on several occasions ie KNIGHT OF THE DRONES or almost destroyed ie JUNKYARD DOG AND KNIGHT OF THE JUGGERNAUT.
But in the Juggernaut story at least three good things came out with that when KITT was totally rebuilt a) SPM b) EBS and of course the C Button!

You're one of the few that liked SPM...I'm in with that little club, I thought it was a good last ditch attempt to do something different with the series and KITT him/itself.

I love Super Pursuit Mode, I think that was my favorite season because of that.

That's cool!! I don't like when KITT gets hurt either. It really upsets me, deep inside, almost like one of my own is being hurt! Silly me!

I think the ramjet was the earlier version of the Super Pursuit mode, but Michael couldn't easily control it that well, so I have a feeling Bonnie must've read the report about that and got the idea of the Super Pursuit mode from Michael inadvertently.
That's just my opinion of that whole thing, and the difference between the ramjet and the SPM mode is that Michael could control that a lot better than his own homemade ramjet, although his ramjet did get him and KITT out of the desert, although not so easily....

Well, it was RC and his gang who built KITT for SPM, so maybe they came up with the idea?

On the other hand, Bonnie knows all the background on KITT and being the scientist that she is, possibly gave the gang the ideas she had, and then they built it.

SPM was Bonnie's idea, not the "Pit Crew"'s. It was a concept change she integrated into him, because without the Molecular Bonded Shell she considered him much too vulnerable. Essentially, it was a self-preservation device to get Michael and K.I.T.T. out of trouble as quickly as possible during their confrontation with the Juggernaut.

After the MBS was re-applied (and it was reapplied, K.I.T.T. returned to normal by the next show) the SPM, EBS and convertible features were retained, giving K.I.T.T. improved maneuverability and a 40% increase in speed.

Even though it was designed by Bonnie, it wasn't really in keeping with her character -- she was always a cybernician, not an automotive designer. That in itself is indicative of Season 4 -- the show was under the control of a group of people who really didn't "get" the show, and paid little attention to what had gone on before.
