London Film & Comic Con: Glen Larson

Went to the London Film & Comic Con on Saturday, and finally met Glen Larson! It was amazing to finally meet the man himself, and he seemed quite surprised to be presented with a copy of the shooting script he wrote (I got it signed)!

I asked about the movie (who didn't, I guess) and he told me that they were still working on the script. In the talk he gave ("How I Created The 80s") he went a little further, saying that "There are people [in Hollywood] who want to make Knight Rider with Will Ferrell." His opinion was that they could go ahead and do that version of Knight Rider once, but only once, and that would screw up any opportunity to make the "real", straight version. So, Larson and Hasselhoff are pushing for the serious version (and rightly so). He also teased the audience, saying that the new ideas for K.I.T.T. and the movie are out of this world (but he wasn't allowed to talk about them).

DAMN!!! CONGRATS on meeting him! :) Glad you got a script signed. That's gotta rule. 8)

Thanks for the update on the movie. I can't wait to find out what they'll be doing with K.I.T.T. although if Glen Larson is involved and stays involved, as does David, then I'm very sure we WILL love it. You know, what they do just WORKS.

If it were me, I'd even put a request for KARR to be in it. ;) But then again, I'm too much a fan of both cars.

Hey, with the thread about KITT being in the Herbie movie as a short cameo, it'd be nice if they brought Herbie in for a short too... for real! Well, maybe I'm getting way out there.

But I'm glad they are still intending to do a movie. I'm thinking here, that maybe after the release of the 4th season of the KR DVD sets would probably be the best time to do a movie... to keep things going. Especially since by then everyone would have had enough hype built up from the sale and releases of the DVD sets. But having it released while the DVD sets are still being released would also boost sales of the sets as well.

You never know... Can't wait to find out what happens next. :)

Great job on meeting Glen Larson too! I'd have been ecstatic too. :)

No fair, I wanna meet him!

IMDB says Sammon Hung is directing. Is that accurate?

You're one lucky guy Paul. Congratz on the interview! It great to hear that they are still working on a script and that they haven't forgot about it. "...the new ideas for K.I.T.T. and the movie are out of this world ." Now I just can't wait to see it. :D

I think that would be a great idea! Anytime there's a new movie release or sequel of something older, they always promote the older movies on DVD before the new one comes out. It really does get people hyped, especially us diehard fans.

That's very cool. Sounds like a good time. Glad he was so receptive to talking about the movie. It seems like a good sign.

IMDB is updated by fans and some of their content may not be very accurate, I've read. I think the best resource is whatever Mr. Larson says, of course. But I'm sure whoever ends up directing, it'll have to be what Mr. Hasselhoff and Mr. Larson themselves decide on. And I'm sure it'll rock! :)

Those IMDB rumours have been around for a while, and there's no truth in them. The movie is still rooted heavily in the development stage, there is no director attached and nothing is certain yet. Mr. Larson sounded very proprietary about his projects, and also what I would call a "purist" from a fan standpoint; he talked about his plans for a BattleStar Galactica movie with the original cast (at least, the ones who are still with us), and hoped Hasselhoff would have involvement (as Michael Knight) in the Knight Rider movie. And of course, Serious Knight Rider instead of Comedy Knight Rider, which is exactly how it should be.

One interesting thought: since he is having a hand in the movie, it may take on the tone of Larson's pilot, and the style of the first 13 shows (he had an advisory role before Robert Foster took the reins). I wonder if this will affect K.I.T.T.'s characterisation -- will he be the "human" character he became in later episodes, or will he be the unfeeling, HAL-like AI of Larson's earliest shows? He didn't seem to be a fan of the direction Foster and the other producers took the series...

That would be an interesting thing to find out - if KITT's AI personality would continue to be more human-like. I think I liked that best. :) Though I hope (and expect) that they won't get TOO human such as in KR2k. KITT did have some rather human qualities though in Season One so I think Mr. Larson may allow a bit of humanity in KITT, but still keep KITT the way we all know and love him. I'm sure he'll keep KITT, KITT. :)

Hi Guys,

I had my KITT on show with Glen Larson and was lucky enough to hang out with him all weekend. He is a great guy and knows more than he let out in the talk.

Vinny you are one lucky guy. :) Hey, maybe they'll use your KITT in the Movie (as long as they take good care of it, of course) - now THAT would rock! :D
