I was wondering if anybody has any photos of a KITT conversion firebird between the years of 98 & 02 to post., for I have been thinking of adding a scanner light on my Firebird.

WOW, all I have to say is Sweeeeet. How did they manage to install the scanner light over the lower air nostrills. I own a 2000 Ram Air and I have been thinking of having a green scanner light installed, for it would give my car a contrast from the red and yellow lights. I would use the color blue, but I wouldn't want people to mistake my car for a police car, especially at night. Maybe I will install a blue neon license plate frame in the rear instead.

I wouldn't do that if I were you. In my country, it is illegal because the neon light obstructs the view of the license plate, rendering it unreadable from a certain distance. If you do go ahead with your plan, I would suggest asking a police officer if it is allowed in your area.

I'd love to build a 98-02 KITT. However, I plan to wait until the 98-02 are in the same price range as the 82-84s today. I don't want to spend another 8 grand on a car just to tear it up.

Don Colie is making a KITT style dash for the 4th gen TA/FB.
http://www.adiautotech.com/4thgen.htm Heres a pic of Don Colie's car next to Mike Ott's KITT-X. I hope he doesnt mind me giving away the link. Its # 15th and 20th of the album.

If the scanner was placed a little higher and was a litte thicker it would look much better!

Due to the way the 4th generation Pontiacs are designed, you can't put
the scanner directly under the hood like in the 82 model. That and the
scanner Don used is the same one used on a regular KITT conversion.
It just looks smaller because the noses on the new cars are so dang big.
I did the same thing in my design a few years earlier. We are building
the actual car now! Here is a pic.........

Thanks for the photos Knightdriver. Those are some of the best photos of a fourth generation KITT conversion I have seen. It's really too bad they didn't make a second coming series of Knight Rider, for that car would have kicked some serious butt against the Camaro, Corvette, Mustang, & Viper competitors.

Well,
We are working on getting this prototype car finshed up in time
to bring to the GM / Knight Rider event in Carlisle PA this June.
The bodywork will be complete but we want to make the car as
functional as possible within the time given. Time will tell and
of course photo's will be posted of the cars progress as it becomes
more complete.
I think it will be much better looking than the concept photos above.

I'm not trying to start trouble, Brian, but I'm just curious how the legalities of the your hypothetical KITT would work. Would Universal really care since your not using the traditional idindica we're all used to? Something like this would have to go beyond your umbrella agreement I would imagine.
I really like the idea of a 98-02 KITT and would like to own one some day. Again only when the day comes when a 98-02 can be had for 2 grand or less, so let's say in another 10 years maybe

Hmmmmmmmmm,
I don't think your causing trouble, in fact I think that it is a very
good Question. Personally, I don't think there would be any legalities
as this is MY design, not Universals. I supposed as long as I don't use
the name, I am safe. It is hard to say. I know there is a lot of support
with us building this car. Especially from the Licensed name holder but
I really can't give a guess otherwise. I guess when we finish it, we
shall see what happens.

That's what I was thinking as long as KITT and Knight Rider stayed out of the equation. Just wondering how anal Universal wanted to be over the use of a similar car with the trademark scanner. However, since this is your creation and legally is at least 30% different from the original I guess your good to go.

I remember seeing this one on the 'Net a while back. It always reminded me of K.I.T.T. in Super Pursuit Mode at night when he had all of his extensions under-lit with red lights.
Kitt-X, the nose on your car looks like the rounded nose seen in seasons 1-3. May I ask which company you got it from? Or maybe its not and I'm just seeing things?

Yes, that's why I quoted KARR 2000 so that his link would be in my post to refresh everyones' memory.

The nose on my car was made by Don Colie of Advanced Designs. It was one of the first ones he made and has been on the car since 2001.
It has held up very well and couldn't be more pleased with my purchase. In fact this was the reason I ended up getting all my conversion parts from Don.
