Most irritating when bad guy plays not-so-bad guy later on.

They used Pamela Shoop in Knight of the Phoenix, as maggie and in Knight of the Jaggnaunt has the Marta Simmons. The used Shawn Southwick in Knight of the Phoenix as Lonnie and in Goliath as Rita.

For me, there's nothing wrong with re-using special guests. What is annoying is if they change the name of the guest or assign a different character for the same person. Why not just use different people? There's an abundance of good actors and actresses in Hollywood, the idea of rehashing the same people for different roles just does not make sense to me.

Sometimes directors/producers (of particular episodes in Knight Rider's case) are friends with particular actors, or just like their talent so much, they ask them to return because they're easier to work with. A lot of logistics in K.I.T.T.'s functions in season 1 contradict rules established in later seasons, the editing of the show contradicts the continuity of certain scenes, so it seems to me that producers didn't care so much about using the same actors playing different parts and just was a part of the seemingly overall mentality the producers had "Well maybe no one will remember from last time, so let's move forward and do it this way now, who's going to care?"

That's called "favoritism". Not a good call if you ask me, it negates growth in the industry. The viewer has a tendency to grow tired of an actor if he or she makes too many appearances in the series (specially with mediocre acting). But those were the 80's, a time when these things really happened. Now that we're in the 21st century, people expect greater variety. Hopefully the producers and directors of today realize that now.
