Knight Rider - Season 1 has been announced!

Fans of Knight Rider will be celebrating today because Universal Studios has just announced that season 1 of the series will be released on August 3rd. This 4 disc set will contain all 22 episodes from the first season on 3 DVD-18s (2 sides, 2 layers) and 1 DVD-5 (1 side, 1 layer) (4 discs total). Suggested Retail Price will be $59.98 and will contain a full frame (1.33:1) picture, English Mono soundtrack and English, French and Spanish subtitles.

Universal only lists 1 piece of bonus material - "Knight Rider 2000" - but we know there will be more. The other day we received an email from Joe Huth, the author of Knight Rider Legacy, telling us what some of the other bonus materials may be. It was his post on a Knight Rider message board that tipped us off to the DVD release last month. This is taken from Joe's email to us:

Extras they are hoping to have are Pilot episode commentary by David Hasselhoff and series creator Glen A. Larson, a jam-packed documentary on the series in general, including rare photos unearthed at Universal Studios' archive, my thoughts on the series, designing KITT, and interviews with other prominent cast and crew members.

We hope that these extras find their way into the finished set, but until they are officially announced by Universal we shouldn't treat them as fact. As we all know, "Bonus material is subject to change." If you want to read more about Joe's involvement in the set you can read this news item from KnightRiderOnline.com.

Well...there is one personal bad thing I don't like...the double sided discs. I prefer them when they have just one side...they get protected a lot more.

And please don't let it be in one of them fold out case designs ie anyone with the Omen trilogy, Region 2 Rocky series or the Buffy season where the box folds out like a cross...because the discs can easily slip out and get scratched.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy, I just don't like double sided discs.

Just a cheap way of getting more information on one disc and saving cash.

Cool I can't wait to order it.

strange that they put Knight Rider 2000 on the 1st boxset.
Would have thought they would save that till the 4th one is relased.
Well hopfully I know I'm geting ahead of myself here!

Knight Rider 2000 is a strange inclusion altogether. It's supposed to be about the original series and it's weird how that's included.

Maybe they don't think it'd fare well as a seperate dvd release.

So I guess some of the extras might contain information about KR2000 too, which is pretty cool.

Agreed on the double sided disc issue. As for KR2000, since it's not really much more
than a spin-off of the original TV series, it ought to be released on a DVD of it's own.

Or . . . has KR2000 already been released on DVD before now?

Awesome,

I've recorded a good deal of the eps off Sci Fi recently, but this will be much better quality, not to mention NO deleted scenes. :D

Hopefully the first season set will do well enough that they'll be able to put out the rest of the series.

This alleged "Knight Rider 2000" extras listing may not be particularly from the 1991 NBC television reunion movie. It could just be Universal being creative, and it may well be the title for the behind-the-scenes documentary that Joe mentioned, because ithere is slightly an abbreviation for "Knight Rider 2000" - K.I.T.T. = Knight Industries Two Thousand.

Stringfellow, the title is specifically quoted as "Knight Rider 2000." This can in no way be confused with the Knight 2000, or any KITT reference.

As for the documentary, why they would name it with a year that's four years past? Seems pretty ignorant, wouldn't you say?

I would put money down that it specifically refers to the 1991 TV movie (which I for one am glad is on this set, simply because I've never seen more than 5 minutes of it.) However, it is subject to change (as all things not completed are).

I hope they aren't planning to include " KR2010" with the season 2 release, if there is one- and here's hoping TKR is released everntually.

I'm SO happy that it's finally officially getting released on DVD! I agree that Knight Rider 2000 should be a bonus disc perhaps for Season 4 because it doesn't fit in with Season 1 but I'll take it no matter what. I also agree that double-sided DVDs are horrible. They get scratched way too easily because there's no label on one side to protect them. Also, i want some beautifully done artwork on the labels for each disc! Why can't they do it like the Smallville disc set or the Star Trek discs? I guess I shouldn't be complaining but Universal should be aware that it's making itself look cheap by cutting such a small cost. It also would be nice to see Dolby Digital Stereo at least instead of mono.

I wouldn't think that it would be the Knight Rider 2000 movie cause it seems silly to include it with the first season rather than the last where it would fit closer in the time line. Each site that has reported on it has either called it a movie or just simply called it an extra. Sure the name is convincing in itself, but it doesn't make sense for them to have it on there. Personally I think it's probably a doucmentary, as others and Joe mentioned. But I'm sure Universal will announce updated specs soon enough (like they did with quantum leap) and hopefully then things will be clear.

here's another mention from DVDFILE.COM....strangely, this one says there will be NO extras for the set:

http://www.dvdfile.com/software/dvd-vid ... 04_12.html

I trust DVDFILE.COM...they've always (or mostly) been right in their announcements.

ment to post that dvdfile review, darnit. DVDfile is very good with their news, only posting announced stuff, very seldom rumors. Still the Universal Home Video page list this "knight rider 2000" bit, so there probably is something. Again, I'd place money that they'll have another announcement shortly with the full specs.

Well, Universal have been known to make their countless mistakes. I was only making an alternative suggestion.

Yeah they have been know to do that ,lol playback has done a few on Vhs boxset 3, they list fright Knight as"fright Night"

Also in boxset 1 they listed tapes that have season 3 episode's on as "also staring Rebbeca Holden!"

The worst one is on volume 2 vhs with the episode "soul survivour"

the cut the promo out and it starts in the middle of the opening titles.

Silly mistake's Don't anyone check these thing's before they get released??

nice its about time they finally came out with it, and as soon as they see the sales for season 1 season 2,3, and 4 will be right behind it. so should we all order it now like early, or wait tilll it gets near august?
