push buttons (ie. turbo boost) - explanation

notice how sometimes the turbo boost button at one time makes KITT fly up and forward, yet other times it only shoots hime forward? one explanation ive had on my mind is each button is on a delay system. and the led's play into this perfectly. each button has 3 LED's, in turn meaning 3 different functions for that single button. the button may have a 1 or 2 second delay, so he can keep pressing the button, but unless he leaves it alone for that one or 2 seconds, it wont activate. and as he presses the button, it cycles through the functions.

In Slammin' Sammy's Spectacular Stunt Show, Michael pushed the turbo boost button and it made KITT only go much faster. That was when the corrupt cop was following him and using a false readout on his speedometer. The turbo boost button just had KITT outrun the cop instead of doing the superjump. But then again, what was there to jump over?

I'm just saying it made him go at maximum speed. But the normal function is to make a jump over something in the way.

like i said. my explanaion explains how it can make him just go faster in one instance but actually go over in another.

That's what I was saying about the explanation. I gave an example to prove your point.

Except Michael doesn't keep pressing the button. (heck, we're lucky if he actually presses the right button in the right place) That actually is where the AI comes into place. KITT examines each situation, if the situation calls for him to go up and over, then he calculates the height, distance and thrust. If it doesn't require an up and over, it just propels him forward, utilizing the rocket thrusters in reverse.

Good theory, however, but the amount of button pressing isn't exactly supported. And in Soul Survivor, it is rather obviously the CPU that is in control of those functions, and it doesn't do it very well (since it was not KITT, but Randy's CPU.)

You also need to take into account that KITT still has a lot of control over his own functions, and adding extra functions into a button like that would actually take up extra room, just so Michael can figure out what button pressure to use. (Way too much for him, you would have to admit.)

Sorry, I don't understand that sentence. It seems like you mean the CPU is in control of those functions and does do it well, seeing as Randy had a very hard time handling it. Or maybe this is just soaring over my head (which is entirely possible...i have a headache), so please elaborate.

The fact that normally the CPU has control of those functions.

In Soul Survivor, it didn't do the functions very well, because it was Randy's CPU doing the work. It wasn't programmed as well.

Is that a little better?

Ah! I see, ok, sorry. I think the articles were thowing me off ("the" CPU was implying KITT to me)

The easiest way to explain the turbo boost controversy is this:

The higher Michael wants KITT to jump, the farther he leans back in the chair after pressing the button.

It's simple math.

If he wants a boost in speed, he doesn't lean back.
If he wants a shot to the moon, he reclines all the way.

LOL.........

Why ask why. :)

 Interesting, but I don't think that had anything to do with it. MK was pushed back in his seat do to the force of turbo boosting... Like on a roller coaster. Moving up and down quickly, making for some g's! Notice everyone else in the car was doing the same.

Alas, I believe this to be true. LOL

It also worked for ski mode. Michael would simply hit the button
and lean his head accordingly to the side he wanted to ski on. You
can clearly see this when he is in ski mode, the Big head hanging out the
open window. Besides, the open window was needed or he would simple
not have the l;eaning power to get the wheels off the ground.

It is called special physics because the of heavy weight of Michaels
big head and hair to the ratio of air in KITTs interior and between
Michaels ears. This caused shifts in the inner atmosphere and allowed
KITT to tilt into the direction he needed to go.

We are just thankful that he did not tilt his head to one side and lean
back at the same time. I dont think KITT would be as maneuverabe
on one rear wheel only.

LOL.

In all seriousness, I believe that KITTs boost forward was intended
as rocket boost but being a lazy studio, they decided to just recycle
the footage of him hitting the turbo boost button for the sake of saving
money. Just my theory.
