Knight To Ride Again

Former Knight Rider star David Hasselhoff told SCI FI Wire that he's still executive producing a feature-film version of the 1980s TV show and is also developing a new TV series. Formerly known as Super Knight Rider 3000, the feature film is now simply called Knight Rider: The Movie and is in development at Revolution Studios.

Hasselhoff added that he is in talks to produce the new TV series. "Right now it's in this land of 'Which way are we going with it?'" Hasselhoff said in an interview. "I think for the film, we're going to go one way, and for the television series another way." Hasselhoff said that he hopes to have an acting role in both the film and the series. "I figure James Bond's about my age, so I could still be Michael Knight." No start date is announced for either project.

Ok, now I am speechless.

Well originally when this story first broke in Novemeber of 2000 David said they were going to do a Feature Film, New TV Series, and a Cartoon.

Movie and series always sounded great to me. Cartoon I always thought we could do without that.

I remember hearing about the cartoon also a while back. While a cartoon might not appeal to some people, I don't get why they never made KR into a cartoon- either during its syndication or after the show ended. I mean, yeah kids bought the toys, so maybe there was no need for one. I think KR would've been a good contender for the cartoon James Bond Jr. or the Top Cops.

I remember Dukes of Hazzard had a cartoon.

Well, from my POV, Knight Rider was about trying to bring the reality of a talking car to us, taking it to a cartoon would have been a step backwards for that concept. (Not that KITT was reality, but it was aimed at making you believe.)

The Dukes had a cartoon???? I don't remember that. You remember what years it was on?

Nick (feverishly scratching his head trying to remember this cartoon)

i believe it was the spring 1983 and fall 1983 season because there were 2 seasons of it, and the first season was coy and vance (who were on the real DOH during half of the 1982 season and half of 1983) and bo and luke came back in 1983, so that would put the cartoon during the spring 1983 half season, and the 1983 fall season thereabouts

i think there were more coy and vance cartoons than bo and luke so maybe it was all of 1982-83 season and part of 1983-84

Thanks for the info. That's why I don't remember the DoH cartoon, I was only two years old LOL.

Thanks for clearing that up for me,

Fairly reliable. Now the question is: is Hasselhoff pulling our leg again, or is he actually serious?

True. I guess we'll just have to sit tight and enjoy the ride until then.

"Knight Rider: The Movie".....Yes....I definately like the sound of that. It actually sounds very good compared to the ridiculously cheesy Super Duper Knight Rider 3000 Delux (okay, maybe a bit of an exaggeration =) ). I'm really looking forward to further updates on this matter. Thanks a lot for the info KI.

If you think about it, it's only logical to have a TV series and a movie. In fact, it's quite possible that the movie is actually a good part of the reason for the TV series, considering the cost of making props, etc... If they have the props and things made well and detailed as part of the movie, they can recycle them into use for the TV series, giving them access to very, very nice props for a series that will need good props.

Also, they always struggle with bringing successful movies to the small screen because they really don't tend to plan for possible success. It's a sign of advanced planning and good faith in the series if they believe they can have both be successful.

Wait a minute he's planning on going in opposite directions between the series and the movie? Won't that screw up the whole concept and confuse movie goers into thinking, "what the..." Thus killing the series before it starts? I think he may want to re-think the opposite direction scenario between the two if he wants the series to survive longer than KR 2000 or TKR.
