Why do people hate Mouth Of The Snake?

I absolutely loved this episode, It always in my top 10 easily.

A lot of people think Michael takes a back seat in this episode, but if you watch it he actually does get a lot of airtime, he just does less of the snooping/fighting and more of the driving/computing/logic stuff. The emotional scenes with Joanna were very good.

Edwardo Obrien (RIP) was a great villian. This episode had plenty of action, and a real big time villanous pair in Matthews and Obrien with a big artillery. The rocket launcher semi was great and a real threat to KITT, you really thought he was going to be destroyed half way through. The soundtrack was also outstanding, Don Peke at his best as always.

It was interesting seeing Michael with a partner, but there was animosity between the pair and they were never truely working together. It wasn't like a sidekick, they were both mystery men who had dark pasts and probably thought they were the only one/best of their kind.

It was also a cool idea having the kind of Bionic Man super athlete. He showed Michael up a bit! I think it was done well and not over done like perhaps the psycho theme in Halloween Knight. They didn't overplay on it but you always knew it was there and it was cool.

The only thing I didn't like in the episode was the destruction of the rocket launcher semi was pretty lame. I expected a showdown with KITT. It would have been a good ending, along with the fight between David and Edwardo.

But I noticed in some older threads some people certainly had a love/hate relationship with the episode. I always wondered why?

It was a showcase episode for the David character, not enough KITT and Michael.

Hasselhoff was on his honeymoon with Catherine Hickland at the time this episode was filmed which explains why he and KITT were missing for the most part.

The David character eventually got his own spinoff series.

This music played during the stealth boat search at the beginning. That was an intense scene.

We felt cheated.

We were promised a 2-hour Knight Rider movie. Up until this point, the other 2-hour movies were the pilot, Goliath, and Goliath Returns so the bar had been raised pretty high. Instead, we got tricked into watching the Code of Vengeance pilot. It's hard to look at the episode objectively.

Promised by whom?

This was season 2, 1983 or so. Sites like this didnt exist.

Promised by an advert or something? I never looked at double KR episodes as movies.

Interestingly, in the poster above KITT is barely seen. We just see the top of his windscreen and the roof. KITT is clearly being shown to take a "back seat" to the David character. Even the damsel in distress, Joanna, has been made to be more noticeable, standing alongside Michael as if she was his partner. The write up in the top right corner does not mention KITT, either. Sucky poster for a sucky episode.

But the score was good.
