I have seen places and read in articles and stuff, that the original KITT was a 1982 Pontiac Firebird. I've seen other places that he was a 1982 Pontiac Trans Am. I read in the Knight Rider Legacy book, that KITT is a 1982 1/2 Pontiac Trans Am. Which car is KITT?

The 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am was cast as KITT. However, with each subsequent season, new models were used to supplement and replace the earlier cars, which in many cases, were beyond repair. To maintain KITT's general appearance, these later models were visually backdated to appear as if they were the 1982 model.

The lines that Scheffe continued down the hood onto the front bumper made it look like a beak of sorts.Completing a firebird look.The blackout of the rear tail lights and adding the lower lip to the bottom of the front nose,covering the break lights on the sides of the scanner,the scanner port itself,all those changes made to the body I don't know how you can still call that a trans am or firebird.Its should have its own design name similar to how the firebird eventually they made a firehawk edition but looked like a firebird.
