All I really need to know at the moment about this great old series, is which of the films is it where KITT fights CARR, the more aggressive and hetrosexual version of KITT?

It's KARR - the Knight Automated Roving Robot. First appears in the Season 1 episode "Trust doesn't Rust" and its second and final appearance is in the Season 3 episode "KITT vs KARR"
