A Board Round Robin - Discussion Thread

Sorry to delay everyone so long, but if you are still up for this, now is the time. Tomorrow, I will open up a second thread where the story will take place. That thread will only be for the Fan Fic, any discussion on or about it will take place in this thread. If any post exists in the other thread that isn't a proper piece of the fan fic it will be deleted without question.

When the thread opens, those who wish to contribute are asked to add replies to the thread with a "." character. This will hold your place in line. Repeat posting will not be accepted until everyone has had a fair chance to go. Once it has become your turn, you will edit your reply and place your fan fic text inside the edited message. (If you are unsure of how to do this, just ask and I'll be happy to explain)

Messages in the Fan Fic thread are limited to 750 words. You have one week to write the next portion, otherwise you forfit your spot.

If there are further questions, just ask them here as well.

One thing I do need, and thats why the other thread isn't here yet, and thats a topic. I ask that you email me via the board with your idea for the Topic of our Fan Fic. I will pick the best one and that will be the basis for our story.

i'm confused..

but this reminds me of something i did at another website. there was a huge forum called the story board, and someone starts a story and then whoever wants to join, can and adds their part of it, but only writes for their specific character.. like, i was 'melanie' and i only wrote for her, what she did, said, felt, etc..

if this is like that, i wouldn't be so confused.. although i still would be.

I think what Neil is trying to do here is:

-Somebody writes the first chunk of story, no more than 750 words.
-Next somebody writes the next chunk of story.

We don't write for specific characters, but we write parts of a story.

Does that clear things up a bit?

(If we go with specific characters, then we will have more character than story.)

So... it's sort of like "Popcorn passing" to the next person? That's cool.

So has this been started anywhere? Am I missing anything?

No one has emailed me with ideas about the theme of the round robin, so I haven't started the actual round robin thread. Email me at neil at knightrideronline.com with your ideas and I'll be happy to get the other thread started.

Ah, yes. I used to do this every friday night on IRC. Still have fond memories of how fun the experience was...even if most of the stories didn't turn out all that well. There was one about the dragon riders, though...

Anyhow, I've always wanted to flesh out this KR plot about a briliant woman who used to work for the Foundation, but her ideas were too radical and her atitude was too agressive and they had to let her go. So, she comes after KITT with a device that can softwire physical circuitry through an altered version of the Micro-Lock system.

OK, it was late when I thought this up, so hang on while I try to explain this...

RR is fun, but what if some one didn't like the way it was going? In my humble oppinion RR's are public property, so if you post your idea can be used by any one. Lets say Mr. X started the RR and Mr. Z added to it. But Mr. J didn't like Z's stuff, so he wrote off of MR. X's start. It now becomes a 'chose your own adventure multiple writer idea bonanza fest'. BothJ and Z can't have thier parts posted in one thred though, so how would that work?
Would it even work at all? I think it would be fun to make a story a 'chose your own advernture multiple author' story.

But doing so is complicated, to say the least, we would need a whole new web page with LOTS of links to handle this. Not to mention some one willing to sort it all out...

But some simple rules could be...

1 write in a chapter and label it.

2 if you add on do so at the end of a chapter, not from the middel of it, label your add on.

3 sing all your chapters.

4 post a rating warning on all chapters you post/submit.

5 have fun!

Well, that's my brain fart for the night. Hope it wasn't to confusing.

Let me put it this way, the complications that go with a RR are some of the ones presented in the first place.

BUT....

That is what moderators are for, including bringing in extra ones just to monitor the RR. Neil has done this.

Neil has pretty much laid out the groundwork, all that is needed is ideas and participants. Let's not make this any more complicated than absolutely necessary, that is where the trouble actually starts.

This is what Neil is basically asking for:

1) For people to email him a theme or idea of what the Round Robin should be about, he will select it from there.

2) For people who are going to participate in the Round Robin to post in the opened thread with a '.'

3) Then we will follow a certain order to get to the end of the story. If Author A does not like where Author B took the story, then Author A needs to cope. If Author B is vindictive against Author A, then Author B needs to grow up.

The idea of the round robin is to see where it goes, not how an author would like the whole thing to go. It will grow in ideals, and yes, not everybody will be happy with it, but that is life, and we are all going to just have to learn to go with the creative flow.

So.

If you want this RR to get underway, then I suggest y'all start submitting some topics to Neil via email. Not more suggestions on how to complicate the situation, but let's get a topic and get this show on the road! And those who participate: agree to be adults about it and accept it for what it is, and where it goes.

Defendant - "...I'm just a poor boy, from a poor family."

Eyewitnesses - "...He's just a poor boy, from a poor family. Spare him his life for this one mistrosity."

Defendant - "Easy come, easy go. Will you let me go, Mr. Knight?"

Michael - "Miszilla!"
(Or, whatever it is they said.)

KITT - "No! We will not let you go!"

Erm...I favor the notion of avoiding a singing fan fiction. It was freaky enough when episodes of Xena did such a thing.

Sing it? Okay..... ahem....

*in tune of Modern Major General*

"It was a sunny morning and the lone knight was out for a ride
when he came across a woman with car trouble off to the side
he stopped for her and got out of KITT asking her what he could do
she seemed to pout and just yelled out "I think I have a flat or two..."

Michael tried to help her as he started jacking up the car
but she snuck in and whacked him in the head with the jack's leverage bar
he hit the ground and then he found a laser hooked to the car's side
that evil witch, she flipped a switch, and said "your car will now be fried!"

Michael Knight got suckered again by another female foe.
You'd think he would have learned something from meeting Adrianne Margeaux..
She pushed a button and an electrical charge tore right through KITT.
then off she goes, and KITT was hosed, and all Michael could say was... "NO!"

if there is anyone still interested in this, I have opened up a thread to start the round robin. Please re-read the guidelines, and keep discussion in this thread and additions to the fan fic in the other thread.

Uh... I hope I replied right to your RR challenge, Neps. If not I'm sorry. Tell me what I did wrong... And please forgive the spelling.

Um, I think you were just supposed to hold your place with a period, not put in any story just yet, so we can determine the order. I could be wrong....but I think that is the way Neil was trying to do it.

nope you didn't. You were supposed to reply to hold your space, like I did. See I was already starting the begining, scratch that. i guess peoples fears about the round robin were confirmed.

I'm sorry but I deleted the post, I hope you understand. We need to keep it organized, otherwise the story can get totally out of hand with people continuing the story without it being their turn.

Right...OK.

(Shrugs)

The RR I am use to was this...
You see an opening jump on it. The first person to post sets the rating. (As in G, PG, R what ever) And it had to be ... shortish, or longish, so long as it wasn't to long.

I was thinking that maybe, like the Knight Radio, general discusion, and others in the future, if it got going good enough, RR could be added to the index. (Did that make any sense?)

Just my thoughts on it.

If you will check the Round Robin Thread, you will see the new instructions. We like to be a little more organized, and on the average, would like to see this get off the ground, but not take over the board. The Round Robin will not have its own board, because as you can clearly see with the other subdivisions, it is not it's own entity, it is not going to have multiple threads, and will most likely find itself integrated and archived over at the Fan Fiction Archive.

I DO have one reason for not being able to use a spell checker...because I will most likely be composing my portions on a Sega Dreamcast. (Which doesn't seem to have enough power to run a spelling checker. (Ha-ha, PlanetWEB. )) So, I will have to do it as I usually do...with common sense, keyboard stroke monitoring, eye balling it and a GameBoy spelling checker cartridge.

Still, this is going to be fun.

Or you can send it to Neil for a once over before posting it, just to make sure. :)
