I remember watching an episode of the original series with KITT and Michael enter a race for cars with alternative fuels. I do know that according to the story that KITT was not running on a conventional petrol engine... Any ideas as to what kind of engine did he have???

KITT's engine was running on Liquid Hydrogen during the Alternative Fuel Race in Give Me Liberty, or Give Me Death. From what I've read, an engine running on liquid hydrogen would be virtually emission-less, which would quiet probably make KITT the cleanest entry in the race.

Well I thought as much...
What kind of engine is it?? Normal Piston, or Fuel Cell??? I recall references made to Turbines from the episode where they have a collision with Goliath.

Judging by the low pitched whine, KITT's engine was a turbofan, and according to the specifications, that turbofan featured modified afterburners. Essentially, KITT's automotive components were derived from Wilton's aircraft designs, which makes the high tech dashboard all the more necessary, and also goes along way towards explaining why a gullwinged steering wheel would be used instead of a standard automobile steering wheel.

I loved the turbine whine. This is one thing I'll miss about this KITT.
