I was watching some of series one of KR and I noticed a couple of times a pasenger would say "wow this car didnt look like this before" (i think it was the kid in a good day at white rock not shore about the other times)

Also in Deadly maneuvers KITT has a diffent stearing wheel fitted, a smaller wheel that was often found in kids fairground rides in the 80s.

So was KITT ment to change the dash and size of the stearing wheel when his systems were being used?

Mabie it was a early idea that they decided to leave out due to budget or whatever.

Any one elce noticed this?

I don't think it was meant to shape shift but from what I remember, KITT was quiet when strangers where in the car unless he was introduced or needed to speak to Michael about something urgent. Hence maybe only the necessary instruments were lit.
However watching the series again the continuity was so all over the place that it could have been due to that.

Also, I think it would have become a bit redundant to have every single person who got inside the car to make comments.
