If the car was exclusively created for the Nick and Jessica show, why make an SPM model, and not just a standard exterior model. It doesn't make any sense for them to put that much energy in a recent conversion if they are going to a half ass job. I'm still willing to believe that it was an old conversion that they slapped together to make "pretty" for recent promotions. There is alot more work put into the car then for it to simply be a prop for N&J.

But sadly these type of things aren't uncommon for Barris. A few months back there was a discussion on BTTF.com about a Delorean that Barris was parading around to shows, even though he had nothing to do with the original design. There too was the conversion poorly done, with many elements missing or wrong from the screen version.

ADDED: some links to BTTF.com's Barris Discussions with Images of His Delorean. And after re-reading some of those links, I can believe that Barris could have recently thrown this hack job together.

I could believe that.

I stand corrected. You're obviously right! I didn't even notice that. As you said, TV can hide things. As can dark captures of the show. :)

And I still think putting a spiler on the nose is the stupidest thing I've ever seen. I can't believe they did that! And to show it on TV like that yet? Geez.

Yeah, it kinda does! I hope a goatee isn't next  or maybe Kitt is now older and going for a more "sophisticated look"?

As for Mr. Barris, I had read somewhere in another forum that he was not a very nice person when someone met him in person at a car show one time. I do know one thing, I don't like his custom work. :(

Rather than calling it the "Nick & Jessica replica" over and over, I hereby declare this car to be known as the "Knick Rider".

* groan *

lol Knick Rider... pft lol

I agree, the front spoiler was just pointless, but everything else... c'mon guys, it was just for a variety show, HOSTED BY NICK AND JESSICA, you can't expect much lol. They weren't going for accuracy or even sense, they were only interested in making sure that car was recognizable as KITT. To us that may include no review mirror, bowling ball hubcaps and PMD seats but to someone who just remembers watching it when they were a kid it means a black car with a red scanner. And I don't care if it was a poor replica, I would've still loved to be able to get a picture with it :) Thanks for the pictures Michael!

Oh, and this may sound like a really stupid question, but I've never seen the show or payed attention to it so... what kinda car was the General Lee?

AAARRGGGHHH!!!! It's OBSCENE! One could say it's Knight Rider inspired, but hardly a replica! :-P Wonder why someone as talented as Mr Barris would want THAT monstrosity as an example of his work?

The Dukes of Hazzard car was a 1969 Dodge Charger

I was waiting for Aussieknight to blow a gasket. :)

Knight Rider Inspired is called a "Knighted Ride". And to qualify for being a "Knighted Ride" the car can't be a Trans Am. I don't know WHAT that car is, but it's not good enough to be called either. :(

Knighted Ricer?

Instead of going on pure hear say, why not do some research.

Barris's shop built the cars since season one. Barris takes credit
for designing the SPM car. Not the whole design. Michael Shiefe (spell)
designed and built the car for the pilot. His designs where then used
by Universal and sub contracted out to Barris's shop to build the cars
for the rest of the series. So he has the right to say he did the cars.

Now regarding the Knick Rider SPM KITT. Barris's shop is no different
than any other shop or business hired to do a job. Think about it. The
car was most likely built to the spec's and budget the purchaser wanted.
Corners were obviously cut in building it and many people say it is
a hack job but without knowing the whole story, it is tough to get a
definite answer.

Everyone is so quick to jump on someone to make themselves feel
better or more superior. It is really getting old. If you don't approve,
fine. but contantly going off saying KILL BARRIS is a little un called for.

You think?

knightdriver... Thanks for sticking up for Barris. But I have to admit that this is new information to me: George's shop actually DID work on the first-season cars? How do we do know this? I'd love to get concrete information about this so we can settle Barris-Universal connection once and for all.
