This is definetely great news! I hope the DVD:s have uncut episodes with teasers. What about the featured songs used in the series, they wont be a problem?
As for extras, I'd like to see never before published photos, commentaries, KITT design scetches and behind the scenes footage.
Hope to see later seasons too on dvd as soon as possible :)

realistically, for extras, we are looking at possibly a few featurettes and that commentary Joe mentioned.

but i don't expect anymore. i'd be satisfied with just that commentary.

it is a 20 year old show after all and given how other past 80's shows on dvd don't have many extras, i'm not holding my breath.

but i'm just happy the set is being released.

we'd have, what....over 17 hours of material as it is.

I don't expect anything more either, but it's always good to throw some suggestions out there just in case they might be willing to give us those things...

And someone mentioned the original TMNT coming out on DVD too... YAY!

extras for the box set

First of all since you're going all out for the dvd (you have to in my opinion). You need to have an eye catching menu that's cool as hell. I can see KITT speeding through the desert at high speed towards the camera, the camera pans across to the driver's side and follows KITT for a few seconds then zooms in and brings the viewer into the driver's seat with a full view of KITT's dash. This would bring up the main interactive menu complete with sound effects.
Any promotional and behind the scenes photos and videos would be a necessity. Teasers, commercial breaks, ect.
Character AND actor profiles, cast and crew interviews. Storyboards, blooper reels, scripts, vehicle and concept designs.
Since we're on the topic, how about some kind of information included regarding this motion picture we've been promised for the last 2-3 years?
I do believe remastering the soundtrack for at least Dolby Digital 5.0 if not even 5.1? Also give the viewer the option of watching with the remastered soundtrack or the original 1.0 soundtrack. It's gotta sound as good as it looks! :)
This is simply my immediate wish list. More will follow if you need more.
Thanks for this hearty tip, it made my day! :)

Sweet!! I'm happy if just the episodes were released on a boxset. Extras are nice, but my Betas are getting old and tired. Also my VHS copies off of WGN are crappy, at best.

Though the more extras, the better! :D

Only problem with that is that they have to go back to the original source material to remix it and the results will probably sound flat. There isn't much that can be done to enchance it either since it is an 80's tv show. If it was a big budget film, it would have a chance but I really do doubt it could ever sound great in 5.1.

They may have to include alternate sound effects to try to make it sound effective and I'm not a fan of that since classics like Jaws and The Terminator were nearly ruined by it.

Still, I say to them to throw that option in anyway, but include a Mono option too for the purists.

My suggestion to you:

Start savin'!

I don't think we'll know the cost for a great while yet - sounds like they're just now taking steps to get this thing started, they shouldn't have price estimates until they know what the DVDs will consist of and how detailed the boxsets will be (correct me if I'm wrong, I'm runnin' on pure common sense with this one!).

KnightCrusader99, lol, if I can get the money by then, I'll see you there!

kitt1987, awesome idea for the menu screen, let's hope for the best!

Not to start speculation but the Quantum Leap set might give you a clue.

However, if the KR set has extras, it may cost a bit extra.

That's great news Joe! Sorry I've been out of touch, I had a death in the family and just got back to checking things.

Joe and I look forward to doing whatever it takes to make the book a success. I admire Joe a lot for finding out about the DVD set, especially since the A-Team will be out June 8 as well.

As co-author of 2 books (with a 3rd on the way) I can say that working with Joe has been a delightful experience. I'm going to speak to Patricia, Glen and Jack later today to see if they have heard anything more solid.

Thanks Joe and you can reach me at richielevine@yahoo.com if you want to send me any further information. Thanks buddy!

Extra Feature Ideas*****

A run through of all the features that KITT had with David Hasselhoff, showing a video clip of each function.

IF there was any video clips of William Daniels recording his lines, then they could include that. Also they coud show us through the stages that KITT was built. If the dvd came out near the same time as Knight Rider 2 then they could do a limited edition boxset that would include the game as well as the dvd.
