Post by Joe Huth » Sun Dec 05, 2004 9:13 am

I just ran across an interview with Peter Parros on TVGuide.com...Here's the KR related parts...

What was your big break?
My big break was Knight Rider. The show was on for four years, and I was on the last year in 1985. That was the most fun job I ever had. I did a lot of action sequences; I rode a motorcycle. We had a different bike every week, and I had an action [scene] every week.

There's been a lot of talk about a new Knight Rider project, Super Knight Rider 3000. Are you involved?
I have to give David [Hasselhoff] a call, because I saw something about the movie online that had me on it. He's been talking for years about doing a Knight Rider movie. What I read was set in the future. Michael Knight (Hasslehoff's character) had been deep frozen. The woman in charge of the Foundation is Devon's granddaughter. I was trying to figure out how I was there if these characters are all in the future. I took a closer look and saw it said Reginald Cornelius V. I played the III on the show. So I'm supposed to be my grandson! I don't know the whole story, but I'd love to do it.

Joe

It would bee cool, If you had RC in the movie, But......He was a specialised addition, To the KR family, Would he really be needed in the new movie?

Cool find Joe. It's good hearing other people from the show being interested in the future of the franchise. Although its sad to see TV Guide referring to it as Super Knight Rider 3000. :|

I'm glad Peter Parros is still interested in making a Knight Rider comeback film. Even if he has aged some 19 years since the last season of KR, he still has the spunk and energy that was worthy of his character in the series. I do hope though, that they change the working title of Super Knight Rider 3000. It just does not seem right IMO.

I don't see how Devon could have had a granddaughter though. I mean, he didn't seem to have any family throughout the show up until he died in KR2000 (of course I expect they'll probably not bring that in as part of the movie's background but I wonder if just "old age" was the explanation for Devon's demise. ) And what happened to KITT? Was he just stored and deactivated? Or...?

Guess we won't know the true storyline until the movie is made. :)

Isn't this like a way old story line from when all the hubbub about the movie started. I think (and hope) that that particular storyline has been dropped. Although, David's the only one who knows at this point.

I don't think that the producers/scriptwriters will ignore the KR2000 movie. They can't just pretend that it didn't exist because every copy of the season one DVD has it. Or else they should have ommited it from the boxset. Not to mention its where Devon died, one cannot just forget that or pretend it didn't happen.

It's probably safe to think that they will try to build a story in the future based on where the KR2000 movie left off. While this may not be a grand idea for some fans, I think this is the most logical choice.

That's a great line of logic. I never thought of it that way. If KR2000 is officially the sequel (as the DVD set refers to it) to the orginal series, then in essence KR:the movie would be a sequel to that.

by the sounds of it the tv guide magazine has just picked up on a very old interview as this plotline was the first to come about some three years ago!

and i think it would be best to see KR2000 as the "first attempt" at a sequel, rather than have the new film spin off from it. casual viewers wont know about KR2000 and so wont know much about its plot, and to go into it in the new film would be daft and off-putting. and let's remember, the year 2000 has come and gone and none of the events in the movie that made up the year 2000 took place, so it'd be a bit daft too, to try to explain those!

the new movie should do what the three spin-offs so far have done, and that's try again from scratch to produce a proper sequel to the original series. and also to stop all this futuristic nonsense started in KR2000, its not what knight rider is about, it should be set in the present day, so to try to include elements from KR2000 wouldn't make sense.

But Team Knight Rider was also officially a sequel. And TKR ignored the events of KR2000.

When people think of Knight Rider, they don't think of the red Knight 4000 or Shawn or Attack Beast. They think of Michael and his black Trans Am. That's where I think the writers should (and will) start from. It makes no sense to me for the writers to force themselves into a creative corner simply because of some marketting phrases on a DVD.

i couldn't agree with you more michael!

and michael is probably the biggest advocate for TKR this board has! i agree that i think it would be very foolish indeed for the new movie to try to anything but be a sequel (or remake) of the original series.

I agree with knightendo and Michael Pajaro. No one except the knight rider fans know or (most likely) don't even care about the red KR4000. I myself as a huge fan of the original series hated the "new and improved" car and even if some of the functions in K.I.T.T. were (in real life) impossible to execute the KR4000 had function that were so much over the top that they just made me sick. So my opinion is that because KR2000 was made (how crappy or idiotic it was), you just can't write it off when making a new movie about KR. So here are a few suggestions:

1. LOSE THE FREAKIN' KR4000

2. Install K.I.T.T.'s cpu back to the (was it '84 in season 4?) original t-top trans-am

3. David should play Michael if not in a lead part then as a supporting carrecter and William Daniels of of course as the voice of K.I.T.T.

4. There was some talk about Peter Parros being in the movie - not a bad idea, remembering that here really contributed a lot to the action in season 4

5. K.I.T.T. souldn't be modified too much. Maybe some new functions here and there and as David said in an interview "old car with new interior", there could be a more modern dash although I love absolutely love the season 4 dashpanel

6. If there must be a futuristic supercar, then let it be a different car (maybe a new trans-am?) with a different driver. I never could imagine Michael driving nothing (or is it nobody) else than K.I.T.T.

7. Make the movie take place in the present day!

These are some my thoughts about how the new movie if it ever comes out. Feel free to critisize or perhaps to agree with me. Long live KR!

Yeah, they should, and I think they will ignore KR2000. Come on, even Glen Larson thought it was crap ;)

I liked the most recent theory-present day-Michael Knight (Hasselhoff) is now the "Devon" character for the new hot shot, who has his own car and what not. But Michael and KITT are still a significant part of the movie.
Michael: "KITT! Where are ya?!"
K.I.T.T.: "I'm in your parking space, Michael, where else would I be?"

as long as they don't mess the idea up like they did with kr2000. i mean, they tried to partner KITT with someone new in it, but it really did lose its "one (person) can make a difference" motto as michael seemed to be shoehorned in there as shawn's partner. this is because we still had devon, and the "new devon" maddox.

if michael takes the devon role hopefully that'll be a proper role for him and the new guy/girl (who knows?) will be like a proper "michael knight" role with KITT as the sole partner.

I agree. Star Trek II basically pretended the first movie never happened, so surely this new Knight Rider movie could do the same thing. Besides, the idea of Michael coming out of retirement after 20 years instead of just 10 would be a lot cooler I think.

The one thing I DON'T want to see though is a "futuristic" setting. What made the series so fun was seeing a futuristic car flying down the streets of a real city in a real world. But when everything else is new and futuristic, KITT just doesn't stand out as much.

dont think they should rehash the kr2000 idea of michael coming outta retirement, but maybe more of a thing where he is handing over his duties to new blood, and has himself slipping into devon's shoes. but yeh ur right, keep it in present day but they're gonna be hard-pushed to make KITT as ground-breaking as he was in the 80s!

I think that if they are going to make a Knight Rider movie, why don't they make one that takes place during the series, in the mid-1980's? That's all I want to see. I wanted to see a Star Trek movie that took place during the series, but they had to move ahead. What the heck? The Knight Rider that I was introduced to and fell in love with was the series and the timeframe of the series. If it's set in the future, yeah, sure, it's Knight Rider, but it's not the Knight Rider that I grew to love. I'm sick of this "looking ahead stuff." I didn't become obsessed with the future version of the show, I became obsessed with the show! That's what I want to see.

Oops...  You can't get then right all the time.

As for the idea that KOPP mentioned about the new movie taking place in the 80's, I'd say the it might be kind of difficult to pull off. First of all Michael (and Bonnie and RC) would suddenly have aged 20 years, Devon would be nowhere to be seen (as Eddie Mulhare sadly has passed away) and also it would require a lot of 80's style props. There is also the question about profit. I don't think that anybody except KR fans would go and see a new KR movie that was set in the 80's. So if the movie is made I think that it will be set in the present if not in the near future, which I really hope it won't be (KR2000 is sadly an example of this).

ur right they shouldnt set it in the 80s and i hope its not new beginning to the story, there's nothing wrong with the 80s story of knight rider, they should follow on from it and set it in the present day.

also, look at starsky&hutch. ok yeh only through the new movie coming out were the original shows brought out on dvd but i bought the first season (simply on a whim to be honest, and LOVE it!) before watching the movie and i have to say it is awful!! the movie sets itself back in the seventies and so sets itself up as a comedy that took the mickey out of the seventies and the original series, something we do NOT want with kr! some sly references yes, something which the original show did anyway in that it didnt take itself too seriously sometimes, but it never degenerated into taking the mickey and neither should the movie!
