2008 MUSTANG SHELBY GT 500 KR 1:18

Post by Kn1ghtboy » Wed Nov 25, 2009 3:35 pm

I've got a question to ask!
I'm wanting to make a Knight Rider mustang for my nephew. He likes the Mustang KITT. I've bid on a 1:18 scale version of the GT500 KR on eBay. Where can I get a scanner LED for the mustang in this scale?

Any ideas or help will be appreciated. I thought about doin' one for myself! But got plans for a 1:1 scale version instead!

Thanks
Larry (aka "LAR")

Search eBay or so. There's this german guy who has made KITT, KARR, and KI3T 1:18 with working scanners and all that.

I've already bought the car, just need a scanner.

I've checked eBay & got a scanner that has a timer relay & different chasers. Once I get it, I'll see if it's the right kind & if so, I'll install it.

I'm still on the look out for a good scanner for the new KI3T.

I wonder how much it costs. If you are really good with modeling paint, maybe you could paint that area orange. This is another reason why a Toy company should do KR Legacy/ :kitt: :dash:

I got on eBay & bought the LED chaser. I'll see what's instore when it arrives. My other question is..how do I make the scanner holes for the LED's? I'd really like this to turn out pretty good if possible. Any help is very much appreciated. I've done several prop replica (TREK fan here too), sanding, drilling, priming, & painting is not that much of a problem. Just need to know what direction to take in making the holes for the scanner. I don't want to make it look like well you know... :!:

Hey Larry, I had some pretty good results from a dremel tool with a cutting 'blade'.
You just have to have a REAL steady hand.
And cover your eyes because metal shavings went every where when I tried it.

Thanks for the tip Tao!

I'm going to start on it sometime next week after finals are over!

I'll be careful with the dremel :) :good:

I finished KITT yesterday evening. I got bored studying so I took a 2 hour study break. I've taken a few video shots with my iPhone. I'll post them here asap.

Here's a couple of videos I uploaded of my project. I haven't decided on what path to take just yet. I'm thinking about making the LED's flash a bit faster or have a trail effect. I've got to play around with it a bit more.

I've got to do some more modifications. Remove parts of the engine so the the hood can close properly. I've decided to make another one after Christmas. I might make it a KARR version. I had to play around with the vent opens after drilling the metal out. I couldn't think of a way to fuse the lights to make it look like KITT's scanner. I finally figured it out & well voila! :) I used drafting paper (velum) to make the lights look alright. I've done that before with some TREK props & it never crossed my mind.

I'm trying to make a soundboard with KITT's scanner from the commercial for the KR08 season. I'll see how it turns out. But I'll probably stick with the one I have already.

I just hope my nephew enjoys it like I have!!
