Events: August 2008 Archives

George Barris was on hand in Long Island today to display many of his famous cars and to help raise money for the Autoseum. Mr. Barris, now in his 80s, is famous for customizing many famous cars including the original Batmobile from the 1960s. His Knight Rider connection was that his group build the Super Pursuit Mode & Convertible mode for the Fourth Season.

The KITT & KARR on display here are actually not screen used cars, but local replicas. Still their attention to detail is staggering, and they are quite beautiful. Many thanks to Mickey and Chris for their access in photographing the cars.

If you happen to be in the NYC area in the next week - we have a couple of events for you!

First up, this weekend is the Autoseum Car Show, which helps to sponsor the construction of a car museum at the Cradle of Aviation Museum in East Garden City on Long Island. Running Saturday and Sunday, the show is open from 10am till 5pm on both days and costs $7 per person (kids under 12 free). Additionally - they are offering a special talegate event after hours on friday for $50, which includes dinner and a meet-and-greet with Barris

The vehicles include the original Batmobile from the "Batman" TV show; General Lee from "The Dukes of Hazzard"; K.I.T.T. from "Knight Rider"; the Monkeemobile from "The Monkees"; the Ford Grand Torino from "Starsky and Hutch"; and the "Drag-U-La" from "The Munsters." Original cars from the movies include the Ecto-1 from "Ghostbusters," James Bond's Aston-Martin DB5 from "Goldfinger"; the Triple X cars from "XXX" starring Vin Diesel and "XXX: State of the Union" with Ice Cube and Samuel Jackson; and the van from "Scooby Doo."

Then on August 26th and 27th on Staten Island, Soundsation (2311 Forest Ave., at the corner of South Avenue) will be displaying a replica of KITT, as well as having George Barris himself appear. Originally, an infamous version of the Super Pursuit Mode KITT was scheduled to be on display, but due to some travel issues, this may not happen and a terrific KITT replica will be there instead.

The Event is free - however they are looking for donations as part of a fund raiser for a little 5 year old girl named Sarah Boschi, who is suffering from a couple of genetic diseases.

KITT was known for his knack for helping Michael out of a jam. It's hoped that KITT fans will step up to help Sarah.

After all, as Michael's benefactor, Wilton Knight, famously told him, "one man can make a difference."

NBC, NASCAR and Yates Racing have teamed up to help promote Knight Rider. This Saturday, as part of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, Travis Kvapil will drive the specially painted No. 28 car.

"The stealth look and feel of the car coupled with Travis Kvapil at the helm has us very excited about this race," said John Miller, chief marketing officer at NBC Universal Television Group and president of the NBC Agency. "This event exemplifies the adrenaline and action the 'Knight Rider' series will deliver."

Added Kvapil: "It's every guy's dream to feel like they are an action hero, and I get to have that chance under the lights of Bristol with our No. 28 'Knight Rider' Ford."

Poor KITT. Poor Niels-Peter and George. They travelled all the way to LA from Vienna via San Francisco. Got pulled over twice on the way up from SF. Get all the way to LA, and break down a few blocks from the finish line.

Fortunately a lot of good samaritans helped and they reached their destination. Watch as we talk to them about it, check out the car - and try and see whats wrong with the car.

Be sure to see all our Gumball 3000 coverage!

Check out this video of David Hasselhoff just arriving in LA after the long Gumball 3000 drive from San Francisco. Our roving reporter Sue was able to get a few shout outs to the viewers of Knight Rider Online as well!

David is as gracious as ever, and even though he must be completely exhausted, he always gives 110% to the fans. Thank you David for a great day yesterday!

When we brought you the story of David Hasselhoff and KITT for the Gumball 3000 a few days ago, all we knew then was that it was a car in "his Viennan friends Garage for 17 years"

We were able to track down a little more by way of Peter's Garage the company involved in the restoration and transportation to Gumball 3000:

More than 20 years were Georgie `s parents of David Hasselhoff the original KITT from the successful series Knight Rider. 20 years hidden Georgie `s parents KITT in a dark garage in Vienna, according to the state. In addition, the car has never been for the public roads. After a few phone calls had the perfect workshop in Rathenow found that the overhaul of KITT accept and KITT in only 4 weeks to life him an official road will obtain approval. From the dark Vienna garage back on the stage in Hollywood in just 4 weeks.

More as this story develops, and hopefully some live coverage tomorrow!

Sorry to keep posting these, but we are getting pretty excited by this! This video shows David checking out the KITT that he will be driving in the Gumball 3000 tomorrow. KITT looks a bit decked out in gold sponsorship (I see he likes Monster Energy Drinks).

David also tells a nice story about his dad. Also of note is the dash, it looks like a early season dash, but then has a single TV unit, signaling a later season. Perhaps it is true that it's a screen used KITT - cause that dash has seen better days!

screen used kitt?

Thanks to Sue for the screen grabs.
