April 2004 Archives

Sith scored the exclusive first images of the latest Knight Rider game from Davilex! These images use the KITT model from the first game, but still the shots look amazing! With another 8 months or so on the development map, it looks like some great things can, and will come!

We've recieved an email update from Stu Phillips, who was the composer on the Knight Rider theme as well as the first season. He updates us with news on his latest apperance, his involvement in the Season 1 DVD and the Knight Con!

Hi,

Would appreciate it if you would post a message concerning my personal appearance in the Seattle/Tacoma/Portland/Vancouver area. I will be appearing at the Northwest Sci Fi Convention in Seattle at the Sea-Tac Marriott Hotel. I would love to meet and chat with fans of Knight Rider. For details about the convention visit: www.geocities.com/raininghollywood. Also appearing at the convention will be Erin Gray and Gil Gerard of Buck Rogers and Lou Ferrigno of The Hulk... Richard Hatch... David Carradine. This is the same convention that was cancelled last March. It looks even more promising this time around.

Also want to tell the fans that last week I did an on camera interview for the KR DVD due out in August.

Please note that as of this moment, I have confirmed my appearance at the Knight Rider 2004 Con in Germany. Hope to see lots of KR fans there.

Thanks

Stu Phillips

Michael Pajaro found this news item:

From the Smithsonian website: "Case: Taking America to Lunch April 13, 2004 - Indefinitely On view are approximately 75 illustrated metal lunch boxes and beverage containers dating from the 1890s through the 1980s to celebrate the history and endurance of American lunch boxes. After reaching the height of their popularity at the dawn of the television era, lunch box sales became barometers for what was current in popular culture."

the news just came down that Universal has announced that Season One of Knight Rider will be released on DVD August 3rd, 2004.

From tvshowsondvd.com:

Knight Rider - Season 1 has been announced!

Fans of Knight Rider will be celebrating today because Universal Studios has just announced that season 1 of the series will be released on August 3rd. This 4 disc set will contain all 22 episodes from the first season on 3 DVD-18s (2 sides, 2 layers) and 1 DVD-5 (1 side, 1 layer) (4 discs total). Suggested Retail Price will be $59.98 and will contain a full frame (1.33:1) picture, English Mono soundtrack and English, French and Spanish subtitles.

Universal only lists 1 piece of bonus material - "Knight Rider 2000" - but we know there will be more. The other day we received an email from Joe Huth, the author of Knight Rider Legacy, telling us what some of the other bonus materials may be. It was his post on a Knight Rider message board that tipped us off to the DVD release last month. This is taken from Joe's email to us:

Extras they are hoping to have are Pilot episode commentary by David Hasselhoff and series creator Glen A. Larson, a jam-packed documentary on the series in general, including rare photos unearthed at Universal Studios' archive, my thoughts on the series, designing KITT, and interviews with other prominent cast and crew members.

We hope that these extras find their way into the finished set, but until they are officially announced by Universal we shouldn't treat them as fact. As we all know, "Bonus material is subject to change." If you want to read more about Joe's involvement in the set you can read this news item from KnightRiderOnline.com.

The series is available for pre-order from the following locations and prices:

Universal Home Video $39.98

Amazon.com $41.99

Barnes & Noble.com. $47.98

Buy.com $37.75

DVD Empire$44.99

Of course the cheapest price also depends on shipping and tax in your area, so the cheapest base price, may not be the cheapest price overall.

Currently this is a REGION 1 release only. No news has been released about any other region.

discuss here

A few months ago, news was found of a Knight Rider Experience that was to tour and take place in the UK. This event did not transpire and was believed to have reached an ultimate end. Well it seems this is not so. Sith has received the following email from the producers of the event, set to start December 7th of this year:

Built on the reputation of a sound original TV Show in the early 1980’s a cult following of fans exceeding 1 Million (250,000+) in the UK alone, who are waiting in anticipation for the introduction of the NEW movie, which is about to hit the big screens early 2005 and, now with the launch of the Knight Rider UK Experience introducing the original first series and third series KITT Cars, including the launch of WHITE KNIGHT. It seems to good to be true… Well, the opportunity has now arrived and we are now ready to supply an injection of Knight-Rider to the United Kingdom, and it comes in the name of: The Knight Rider UK Experience. Brought to you by: QUICKSTAR ASSOCIATES.

Readers must be warned however that by all accounts this event looks shady. Calls to the number provided have not fully convinced any callers, and reports from the agents of the Knight Rider stars have claimed that they have no knowledge of this event. With the rather high price tag for the "Golden Ticket" I would suggest anyone thinking about purchasing this to wait until the release date nears, as to be sure they'll get their moneys worth.

This past Sunday, ABC premiered the Nick and Jessica Variety Hour, staring the reality couple of the moment. During this hour, Nick sang a duet of just the two of us, with KITT.

From cloudkitt:

Just now, I was channel surfing and came across that horrible Jessica Simpson show. However, right when I got their. Nick says, "I'd like to introduce an idol of mine, KITT from Knight Rider!!!"

And he and KITT sang "Just the Two of Us" KITT's voice impersonater was horrible, but I think it was supposed to be. And KITT made some off-comment about his parents being divorced (??)

You can watch the video for yourself here. Thanks to Michael Pajaro for the video.

Thanks to cloudkitt for the spot!

Are you going to be in Los Angeles California on April 27th? Then you just may have a chance to see the new Pilot staring David Hasselhoff being taped before a live studio audience!

Audience Unlimited, who is a big company that gives out TV show taping tickets has a link on their website to request tickets for the new untitled Stein/McCall series!

TUESDAY, APRIL 27 untitled Stein/McCall project 7:00pm - Warner Bros. Studios Colin Hanks stars as a young reporter at a national magazine. Co-starring David Hasselhoff as the dashing war correspondant.

Just click on the link on this page and try and see if you can score some tickets!

This posting was made available on David's site sometime this morning:

"March 25, 2004....Message from David....The commercial shoot in London went well and I'll let you know when viewers in the UK will be able to view it. Thanks to you the fans the album is doing well and we're trying to put a tour together in the very near future. Again, stay tuned for more info....I'm looking forward to getting on the road and performing again! By the way, heard there were some strange news reports about me and the Berlin Wall! So here's the real deal: I recently enjoyed a very nice visit to the Checkpoint Charlie museum and I explained that I was very honored and humbled to perform at the Wall in 1989. End of story! All for now....but keep smiling! Love David."

No, this is NOT an April Fools!

Zap2it.com reported on Monday that Hasselhoff has agreed to make his return to TV in a primetime Pilot that will be shot for ABC. The still untitled pilot is about a young man at a prestigious national magazine which is loosely based on series co-creator Joel Stein's life who was the youngest writer for Time when he started there.

I spoke to Joel Stein, to confirm the validity of this article, since it came to our attention on April fools, and here is what he had to say:

It is all true. David Hasselhoff will save ABC. He's playing a dashing, full-of-himself war correspondent in a sitco (sic) about me when I first got to Time magazine when I was 25, since I'm the only topic that really interests me. Joel

We would also like to remind everyone that while we wish the series all the best in success, it is still uncertain whether this series will ever see the light of day. Alot of Pilots are filmed each year, and a limited number of them are approved to continue into a fully fledged series. Still, with Hasselhoff attached and Colin Hanks (Tom Hanks son, and stared in the hit movie Orange County) in the staring role, we would like to think that this show has a pretty good chance.

Thanks to knightdogg for finding the original article!
