June Updates 2006

I know we're 6 days into the month but I didn't see that anyone had started one yet.
I realize I've been gone from this board for a while, but I am happy to return. My car's still in the paint shop. The last time I was there it was still being prepped for paint and didn't really look all that different from the most recent photos on my website. Here are the last photos that I took before taking KITT to the paint shop.
That's a Yancy bumper, and it took alot of work to get to look that good. I would recommend going with
http://www.wraithinnovations.com if you like the same "look" and a Yancy bumper but want something a bit stronger. I aslo have the front and rear deflectors ready to go on. The front ones came from Ken of Wraith Innovations...really nice work.
But I should be getting the car back this week and I'll get the pics out as soon as I take them. Best of luck to all.

Did you blend your nose right into the fender?
If so....Looks good although I hope you never have to take it off.
Can't wait to see it painted!

I did that on my first car...
After 2 or 3 good hard turns, the seams cracked...Hope that you have a better result
These cars flex...

I bonded the bumper to the fenders with high impact waterproof construction adhesive then bondo'ed the bumper wider then applied fiberglass mesh and resin to hold the fender and bumper together from the outside. The seam is covered by the mesh. I hope that it holds up for a while, but if it doesn't I plan to change to Wriath Innovations bumper later anyway. The results weren't that bad and I was pretty pleased. The guys at the body shop seem to think that my combination will hold up for a while, unless I hit it hard or I wreck it, but then I've got many more problems than just the bumper. I did alot of work to get that Yancy bumper to look good. I really wouldn't recommend this bumper to anyone, it just doesn't fit and it's thin and needs alot of support And, I wouldn't recommend tackling such a project to anyone without some knowledge of fiberglass working/finishing.
But, the proof is in the pudding, only time will tell, I remain hopeful.

The covers were just off so that they could be painted. And yes, everybody at the body shop recognized the car. The owner asked me to bring it back when it was completed so that he could take a picture of it for his lobby. I agreed. Also the body guy took real good care of it, he said his first car was an '84, so this was nostalgic for him.
Also, today in 6 hours I was able to;
+ reinstall the rear hatch lifts
+ reinstall the rear spolier
+ install all 6 fog lights
+ attach my "KNIGHT" plate
+ reattach the taillights
+ reinstall the tag light
+ install the black out
+ reinstall all 4 of the marker lights
+ reattach the door handles
+ put on the Bowling Ball Hub Caps
I'll take picture tomorrow when it's light out.

Yeah. I have one of Brennon's (Lectric Enterprises). I'm thinking about leaving it off of the car for the inspection. I'll put it on later. I just don't want any problems to come up about it. If you check out my website, I had it installed before the car went to the paint shop, so that I could make any modifications to the bumper before it was painted. Thanks for the feedback.
I love how its coming along!!!

I am incredibly impressed!! As someone very connected to the art of reconditioning, let me ask, how are you going to get the interior / seats? That seems to be the biggest problem I am running in to.
YOUR KITT looks amazing so far, and you deserve a hell of a lot of accolades...

I already have every piece need to put the interior back together. All of the trim is original to the car, just recolored. The PMD seats I got off of eBay, upholstery came from Hawks Third Gen Parts, the center console from the junk yard, steering wheel from eBay, and I'm leaving the stock dash/gauges for now until I can save up the money for the KITT dash. If you check out the two links below, my website shows the parts and the work I've done.

Fantastic car! Great job!
I would like to make a KITT replica but it's very dificult
because in Greece a pontiac firebird is a very very rare, it's like you want to find a Mclaren f1 car!
Anyway you are a great inspiration for all of us.

I have the same Yancy nose cone on mine, i found it solid enough but it was a poor fit and needed to be bodged at the edges which Newcastle Knight's dad did for me (thankfully).

WHOA!!!Fantastic job,MD!Great video clips.Makes me want to buy some lotto tickets...
p.s.:Just curious,do you live close to Hunt Valley?Because every July at the Hunt Valley Inn there is the Shore Leave Convention;it's primarily a Star Trek convention but all the sci-fi/fantasy genres are represented in some way.If you were to pull up to the main entrance in your replica, you would be a certified hit.Pic requests galore(and an opportunity for you to add some unique photos to your site*imagine Darth Vader trying to use his"bathroom"*)!This year it's 7/7-7/9.I'll be there with friends. If this does not interest you in the slightest, please disregard my wishful thinking.
