Guess I'll put the updates up front, random though they may seem:
*more images of each model on pages 2 and 3.
KITT:

VS KARR:
Believe it or not, I haven't given up. Sorry for the looooooooong absense. Other stuff ... you know. I'll try to update once in a while, but don't expect frequent updates - I just don't have the time to devote to this badboy

BUT when I do have time, I'll chip away at KITT. For me and for y'all
Today, KITT's surface (mostly done, I think):
Sad that he's empty, no? Someday ...

One thing I fixed is the back end - now it has its curve, and the license plate is placed a bit better. Observe:

Wow, George, this is awesome! Compared to the only CGI Kitt on the market, which is the crappy Davilex one, yours is uber perfect. The model is fantasticly accurate, everything is so "real". And the spokes of the wheels, they look better than the ones on my 1:18 die-cast model! All I can say is Congratulations!

Dude, that car looks so sweet, it's kissable!
I've given up on my own version because of a lack of time. With coursework just finished, and my final year coming up soon, I don't have much free time.
The biggest problems I had were largely to do with the roof. Making it curved so it meets the curve of the door window was tough and lead to some screwy goings-on with the faces. And that rear window gave me heaps of trouble.
Nice to see someone able to handle 3ds max so well and not come out with a funny looking KITT like in my pics.
Love the wheels too. Did you use T/A tread patterns or your own version?

I'm sure I'm missing something, but what do eggs have to do with KITT?

Clerko is the HoFF usually says something off the wall.

Thanks for the comments. I gotta work on that license. I'm not happy with the colors. Grrr ...
Knight2000 - I did my best to model the tread as seen in the show. Dunno what episode, but it's based on a screencap. Check out the other thread for a better image, if you're interested.
After much experimentation, I've figured out a way to make a decent looking lightbulb/reflector setup. I'm sure you'll agree it is pretty danged cool. Forgive the lack of ... the rest of the car. Working with the whole model loaded is impossible.

Lol I know what it feels like to try and load a whole model. I once tried to edit the vertices on my model after meshsmooth iterations 2x. My laptop just crashed lol
Another hard bit for me has always been trying to make reflectors for headlights (and scanner in the case of KITT). I've got it unsmooth so it has many reflecting faces but it still doesn't quite work.
Love the scanner. And it looks like you're gonna do the plates covering the indicator lights, which was gonna be something else I was gonna ask.
Still cool.

I'm speechless!!! I don't know what to say other than it's a FANTASTIC piece of work!!! Although, what are these cars used for? I mean, we often tend see pictures of Kitt like this, however I can't figure out what they are used for? Are we going to be able to download them? Can I for instance use the car in Grand Theft Auto San Andreas or is it just a picture?

Knight-Armen - I don't know how well a GTA conversion would work, but Reddawg is still planning (I assume) to try. I wanted to build this model for myself because it's the closest I'll ever get to actually owning the car. The downside is you can't drive it or show it off, but the upside is it doesn't scratch or rust

So, animations (videos), pictures and a GTA adaptation are what I hope to get out of this effort.
Checklist for the exterior:
-fix license plate textures
-apply textures to turn signals
-build headlights (just the ones in the bumper)
-revise scanner lightbulb size and texture
-build t-top bits (at the sides ... dunno how to refer to those)
*maybe*:
-fix the door geometry around the handle
-fix the hood scoop geometry
Excited for new image:
note: I also have to figure out a better way of lighting it ...

wannabegeorge - I really love your piece of work and I would like to be able to download it for Grand Theft Auto some day! I think it's mostly that your car is so detailed and real. I mean... it's hard to explain, but I hope the car will look as detailed as it is now on the game (GTA).
Ohhh, one last thing, what program did you use?

wannabegeorge,I like how the car is coming along all except the scanner. Can you darken the area where the scanner is reflecting a bit.I'ts too reflective kinda looks like 2 scanners. Also remove the dots from each led.
This is what I had in mind. The scanner should be more of 1 color then dull whitish.More of a stronger red.

You think? I think it's perfect as it is!!! Don't even think about touching it...

If you worked for Davilex, producing those kind of graphics you'd be robbed.
Excellent work!
