Only DoH fans are actually crazy enough to jump and smash up their replica General Lees. Now I know why some of them don't have insurance coverage (could you see it? "My insurance doesn't cover my jumping my car").
Thank god we "Knight Rider" fans have a lot more sense.

They didn't use a replica or a restored car for the jump. They used a car that was normally going to the junkyard 2 years ago. They collected parts and put them together to have a nice exterior car and a good engine. I think the only thing which was expensive on it was the paintjob. The car finally ended where it must have ended 2 years ago.

You could tell by the after pictures that the car was a big hunk of bondo. You can see some good chunks of it missing in the rear. Basicly it was thrown together for the jump. Made pretty and then it was show time.

Even so, "Knight Rider" fans aren't that crazy.

Pitty the Duke fans didn't know about the lead weights they used in the show to stop the car going nose first.
Would have made less damage if they had.
damn funny just the same thow...
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWW

The guy who drove the car for the jump is a professionnal stuntdriver named Corey Eubanks. He worked on the DOH 25 years ago and did a lot of jumps and stunts for the show.
He decided not to put weight in the trunk for THIS jump. He surely knows better his work than anybody here

I personally would think an event like that for Knight Rider would be significantly cheaper than the general jump. You must admit, finding a 3rd gen T/A (or firebird) is a heck of alot easier than getting your hands on an old charger. I would think, for money sake, that it would only need to be an exterior conversion too. Throw on a cheap nose and a macco paint job, and saftey equipment (of course) and your golden. Not saying it would be cheap, but less than what the DOH people shelled out, yes indeed.....

Yeah, but who's gonna pilot it? I say pilot, because the GL spent a heck of a lot of time in the air. Was the jump just supposed to clear the copcar under it? Cause it probably would've done that at a LOT slower speed. Nose-diving a car at that speed's GOTTA hurt! The safety equipment in it must've been extensive.

you can say that 100 time agin. but don't do it. oh what I say type it.

I dunno, I think he was going for distance. The car was barely staying on the ground well before he reached the ramp. LOL. Talk about a show stoooper! All I know is it wouldn't be me trying it. Last time I jumped a vehicle, well, lets just say it was back in 1996, and I am still paying my medical bills for it. When they tell you don't try this at home, its usually for a reason. seats belts alone, are NOT enough. LOL

I'll pretty much try anything once, highspeed slides, reverse turns, hand-brakies, etc, but getting a car THAT high off the ground, I mean, it just DOESN'T BELONG there! (shudder)<-------at the thought of pain.

by knightdriver
Oh, you reminded me about the pain, yes, lots of that with doing dumb stunts in cars. (or trucks in my case). Lesson well learned, just a little late. I'll stick with my just driving over the speed limit now.

the jump car had the works on the inside, thats how corey eubanks walked away unhurt !
Maybe Jack Gill would step forward to jump KITT, who better to do it. If an even came about anyway, for the 25 anniversay or something, then id be buying my plane ticket to america most likely ! no way would i miss something like that
all those knight rider fans in one place ! woo

Anyone able to check out the still images? I'm getting a white page when trying. Will try the video later when I'm not at work

Yeah neps the images still work. It is painful to watch because that was a waste of a good car. Dukes of Hazzard is one of my favorite TV shows after Knight Rider.

Here is the direct link to the images, cause the link up there gave me a frameset that I guess my browser had issues with.
