KR 2008 Scanner Question

Right, so, let me water down a few things. I'm 17. I'll be getting my first car in a few months. I'm narrowing down my options between these choices:

1) 2001 Pontiac Firebird Base, Automatic, V6

2) 1996 Pontiac Firebird, Automatic, V6 or V8 (this is closer to KIFT)

3) 2005 Ford Mustang

My question here isn't whether which of these cars is good for me, that's for me and my parents to decide. My question is, since KITT's scanner is usually illegal to put on in most states, including mine, I was thinking of putting on the KR 2008 scanner. Would any of these cars be able to fit a scanner of the kind? And where can I find a reliable, yet fairly cheap I guess scanner of this kind?

Thanks.

Hey, I have a 2009 Mustang KITT replica and in order to use the 08 KITT scanner, you would need the KR hood. Jason in Frankfort, Illinois makes them, he also makes them to fit the later Firebirds. You can find him on EBay under knightrider scanner. He does a great job, affordable and great to deal with like some people.

Thanks for the answer! I'll look around for the hood, what about the scanner?

Edit: Regarding the hood, can't a scanner of some sort be fitted behind the grill? I don't have the money to buy a GT500KR right now, and I doubt I can afford the hood.

I thought the laws were regarding *running* a scanner and not just having it fitted, but I looked up your state by-laws and it does specify fitting, not just running. Hm.

ETA: Can you get LEDs and a timer device and build your own scanner?

I probably can, though I'm trying to figure out how to create the heartbeat scanner they did with the Stang' rather than an oscillation style one for the original KITT, just because a lot of the cops cars here do have that back and forth running light, so I guess I'd rather stick to the heartbeat style to be safe. Which I also can't seem to find anywhere.

I believe the word they used was "azimuthal" scanner, and googling that seems to yield a lot of Medispeak which is over my head.
