Isn't it oddly convienient that they haven't shot at KITT in KoTJ P2, even though he has no MBS?

Given that they already tried to shoot the car when the hired help were on the conveniently closed off highway, and failed, they must have thought let's just disable the shell and completely mangle the car with their big juggernaut vehicle which had no weapon systems at the time.
