How tough is it to find a used Trans Am, and what shape are they usually in?

I'd LOVE to tackle a kitt, but I fear that it may be out of my talent range. But the first problem would be finding and paying for a car..

I just found out my step mother use to own a black 1982 Pontiac trans am the same color that Michael long drove.Too bad she doesn't have it anymore lol. Always check Ebay frequently because they'll have some in excellent, mint or fair condition they come and go real quick.

And don't forget Craigslist. Usually plenty on there. Also type in firebird in the search box.

Oh, I wish I hadn't seen those ebay links...it's so damned tempting.

I even know a shop that would be perfect to tune the outside of it up.

Although the second link is a spot on 82 trans am,you have to understand that it won't have t-tops.The bucket seats aren't fabric. They look like a plastic.Either of them you will need to hunt down the proper interior fabric and right bucket seats.

This might be the best trans am on earth left to start with making a great kitt conversion.

LOL nice!

I can also tell you from experience that starting with an 82-84 will give you a more accurate car to start with so you aren't adding expenses onto an already expensive project. I was lucky to find my 82 on ebay and it already had the right interior seats, right size rims/caps, T tops etc so I didn't have those headaches.

82_KITT,do you still have pictures from the auction you bought that car from? I type in 1982 trans am into google and you wouldn't believe how many trans ams in that year didn't come out with those wheels,or not completely black,no bucket seats, different interior colors. Its becoming more and more rare that you find the trans am that resembles kitt's features without the mods.

Closest one i've found.

the green 82 with tan interior would be a good starter car. So it doesn't have t-tops. big deal. Not all KITTs did.
And there was a KITT with vinyl seats so that could be correct also.
reading the description was funny though.
