A Friendly Reminder To All

Hi guys,

I’ve noticed over the last month or so that “txt speak” is becoming rather common amongst some of our newer members. This is something that needs to stop.

I hate to invoke the official disciplinary system in an effort to deter this form of shorthand, but I’m afraid that I will begin doing so from this point onward with repeat offenders, as too many posts by known English speaking members have been difficult to read as of late.

Remember, basic usage of grammar and spelling are an important part of an international community like ours. :good:

THANK YOU!!!! It does get hard to read some of the things on the net and in text messages and emails these days. It's quite annoying. I actually set up my Blackberry to replace "u" with "you" and "r" with "are", etc. That way if I accidentally fall into the trap, I don't come out looking like a 13 year old with a toy.

Ha!

I've personally found this to be a common occurrence across multiple forums. Sometimes I will have to read the same post two or three times before I can comprehend the message.

Same here, which is why I've decided that enough is enough. I mean, I've all the time in the world for working out the meaning of translated posts from our foreign members, but creating messages using nothing but “txt speak” is just plain lazy.

Thank you for remembering this forum has members who's native language is something else than English and the "txt-speak" is sometimes bigger problem to us than it may be for people who speak English as their original native language.
During the years I've been in this forum and other international forums I've been trying to learn English words and sayings by reading posts and posting myself. Watching tv-series like Knight Rider are also nice way to learn English ;) Still, my English may not be perfect, I just hope it's understandable & the message gets through :)

Thanks for the heads up, Matt. I'll be sure to double check my spelling in the future.

We've known each other for quite some time now, right? This should be an easy fix! :good:
