What did trans am mean>?

Trans Am is a specially packaged version of Pontiac's Firebird range of vehicles. It included air spoiler,upgraded suspension and horsepower and was named after the Trans-Am Racing Series. I guess you could say it was the racing package.

Trans-Am itself is a shorter version of the original name of Trans-American Sedan Championship.
