Somethign the new Micheal is missing

It just occurred to me that if the show is heading down the same path as the old show, there might be a problem with the new Micheal's abilities.
The new Micheal doesn't have police experience and so wouldn't have knowledge on how to dig out clues and piece the evidence together like the old Micheal did. This is going to be an issue if they're going ot start sending him on the kinds of missions the old KR went on.
To date his missions have consisted of pre-defined required action. Do this, get this, infiltrate that, save that person...etc...which as a marine is what he's trained to do.
The old KR was more about getting all the information, gathering the evidence needed and then solving the problem.
The new Micheal doesn't know how to do that, he's an army guy, not a detective.

well,
i dont know if i see a problem with this as much, alot of military men go on to become policemen, not only that, but mike was a ranger, special forces guy, i have every bit of faith that his training was as extensive as a cop as it could be...

KITT could probably do the detecting quite well, if you ask me.

I agree on all points and they are good ones at that, but it also might make for a more interesting show. The old Michael was in the dark for most episodes and had to do detective work in order to ultimately solve the problem. If anything, Mike will be facing the same problems but also bear in mind that we have a supposedly far more advanced vehicle this time around. Therefore the new K.I.T.T. has access to technology that simply didn't even exist in the ’80s. I see it as Mike, Michael, K.I.2.T. and K.I.3.T. having some advantages over each other and perhaps even balance themselves out.

What did the old Micheal have that the new Micheal doesn't?
hmmm.....
Well, the obviously nair-free chest rug, for starters
A prancy run (A couple of eps in TOS shows David runs like a nancy!)
A 'fro
annnnd, that pretty much sums it up.
Both Micheals have good experience in the covert field. What I think is the new Micheal has better experience to handle missions than the old one did.

Agreed!

I hope they don't try to make it exactly like the original. That would sadden me, honestly. They are different characters so they deserve their own... style if you will.
Although I am looking forward to a the lack of "terrorist of the week". That aspect of the original I can look forward to happily.

I don't think we want clones of the original characters. It would take away the identity of the new show. KR08, even as a sequel, should have an identity of it's own in a way.

I wasn't suggesting that he should be a clone. Merely musing about the differences in characters and how that might play out if they do in fact turn the show more towards the formula of TOS.
