Is it just me, or does KITT spend a lot of time driving on the wrong side of the road?

LOL.

I guess the new AI has more learning to do than we though huh?

Often times I've wondered if the AIs just don't care about the middle stripe. Classic KR had Kitt all over that road sometimes.... even in just casual, scene-setting driving times.

I dunno. If I take that screen grab as it is, KI3T is perfectly placed to make the apex of the right hand turn coming up.

Ki2T did similar things during chase scenes as its the "racing line" through a corner.

Yeah but he isn't racing. He's on a public road.

Public safety should be his first concern when driving on public roads, not the best "racing line"

KI3T also has all that fancy GPS stuff that was highlighted in the back door pilot (during the first chase scene with the SUV on its tail), so it can drive on an optimum path without endangering other road users.

Look at it another way, KI3T knows where other vehicles are on the road within his proximity, so if none are coming around that particular corner then who is he endangering? no one as far as I can guess. Ditto, with KI2T and its scanner. Both cars have the tools to be able to best judge the road without endangering human like.

The racing line as I'm sure your aware is the fastest way to get from A to B in a corner. Depends what is going on so KI3T could be saving fuel or trying to catch the bad guys.

Look at the speedometer: 47 mph / 76 kph

He isn't racing :)

He should also be observing the road rules. Not breaking the law just because he can.

True, but then we can be nitpicking both KITT's driving habits. I recall seeing many overhead shots in the original series where KI2T or Micheal just ignores the rules of the highway. Suffice to say, what actual harms is it doing if both KITT's are well within control and know that there are no cars in sight? It's not quite the same as a young boy-racer who doesn't know there limits and scaring the locals.

47MPH! KI3T's cruising anyway. I'd stick with taking the optimum line to conserve resources. You don't have to be racing to be taking the best line in a corner. Personally I wouldn't do this, but then again I don't have the pleasure of having a GPS system that overlays every car within a 1 mile radius and a computer working out how best to conserve fuel.

Are you sure that's Ki3t on autopilot? If Mike is driving I'm not surprised that he's on the wrong side of the road with all of those readouts on the screen! It buggs me that the windshield works like a monitor. How on earth is Mike supposed to drive when all the data is presented on that windshield? A monitor on the centerconsole would work much better.

Perhaps you've noticed but sometimes he stops the car only to go outside and get a readout on the bonnet! Very unpractical. I know for sure that a projector can provide with these functions, as you can project the light on any object and percieve an image... but on a car? Hmmm...

As for the racing part we're not sure if he's racing or not because that's a pretty sharp turn and in order to make the turn he must lower his speed to about 50 mph. Besides, 50 mph on a turn like that is pretty fast, especially if you have readouts on your windshield that degrades your eye sight.

I'd love to see on the HUD the words "auto cruise" when Ki3t takes over

displaying various pieces of info on an interactive HUD, downloading updates from the SSC, talking to Mike and the people in the 'kittcave' AND finding the perfect apex in a bend....??

I think Ki3t multi tasks great.... :)

Oh trust me, its all over the first few episodes. I noticed back in the first episode. I think what is happening is the VFX team is taking footage of the rear view of a vehicle and playing it backwards to get the illusion of going forward. If only they could flip the the image horizontally they would fix that bug right then and there...
