I think he was a natural choice. He has a background in big budget action features involving cars, so he has certain elements of the KR sensability firmly in hand. However, where I see writers balancing things out are the elements outside cool action and transforming cars, namely characterization. I think Andron's turn at the writing table shows that using GST's ideas, a good script with some genuine emotion and interaction between characters can have wonderful results.

Actually, I believe the show under GST has become Fast and the Furious meets Las Vegas with a dose of 24 thrown in. It's supposed to be Knight Rider meets the 21st Century. Episode 4 was a little bit better, but I'll post more of my observations in the Episode 4 thread. Thank you.

Honestly, I was originally worried that there would be too much Fast and the Furious influence in this new incarnation and unfortunately I was right. I was also not very enthusiastic about it after I watched 88 Minutes which was written by Gary Scott Thompson and felt that it was a total trainwreck. And then of course we got the first episode which received scathingly negative reviews and was also written by Thompson which pretty much solidified my opinion of his writing. Now although this sounds harsh, I do think that he has the right amount of passion and enthusiasm for the show, but I feel that perhaps writing episodes might not be the best thing. If the sexual overtones, lousy dialogue, over-the-top action and misplaced humor can be toned down a little bit, it will make all the difference as "A Hard Day's Knight" has proved.

Like I said already, he has to watch a few more original episodes on DVD. The show ain't that bad, Sarah needs to get a suit like Bonnie( or better- April ) and stay the hell in the mechanic's bay, and STOP driving KITT, I know she didn't last night, but she wanted to. She has enough of an integral part to the storyline to NOT kill her off, but Zoe serves NO purpose to the show. Had Sarah not already been on EVERY mission to date, Zoey could have been replaced by Sarah going on that silly surfing mission. I know, I know, Sarah completed CIA/NAVY SEAL/ARMY RANGER/ASSASSIN/SPY training in a week and a half.......they should....ah, never mind.
He also needs to fix the steering wheel too.

as you say, it's only been 4 episodes, so theres not really much to go on.
But as the saying goes.. first impressions last. And to be honest my first impressions are that who-ever the ring leader is, either doesn't get Knight Rider, or doesn't care about it and is only interested in doing their own thing.
Having said that Hard days Knight had some very KR:TOS moments. So I'd probably be inclined to withhold judgment on the production team until we've seen some more episodes and can see if they are taking any of our concerns on board and doing anything about them.

People also have to understand that there's already like, what, ten episodes or so filmed, or maybe even all 13? We gotta live with the bad things for now until they're able to fix them. It isn't ALL GST's fault. Despite my earlier post I do not hate the show by any means. I actually like the week to week thing with MK Not remembering his past, BUT if NBC keeps cutting that type of stuff out, they're[/i] going to cause the shows demise all by themselves.

i think he is a big letdown, he is doing the show like he wants it. the original mythology is lost, the car is rediculous, it has a stock dashboard, stock steering wheel, basically we have a souped up fast and furious type of stock mustang with a voice modulator. this show could have been much better, this show is too fast, too furious, but not too much knight rider. its an upgraded version of team knight rider.

It's okay as long as he base it on The Fast and The Furious,
NOT 2Fast 2Furious.
But actually it looks like he's basing the show on the latter

Mike is still the son of Michael Long/Knight. Knight Research is a direct descendent of the Knight Industries organization. Indeed, Knight Industries still exists in some fashion since that's what the "KI" int "KITT" stands for. The casual mention of "Devon and Bonnie" was no accident and from the pilot movie we know that Michael Knight Sr. is still around and that there is an "urban legend" about a car built by Wilton Knight. GST himself said FLAG is not forgotten and is trying to create not just a cameo, but a story arc for Da Hoff's potential return. How, by any stretch of the imagination, is the original mythology "lost"?

I thought Knight Research (or "Knight Industries Research and Development" to use it's full name was supposed to be a fully owned subsidiary of Knight Industries and/or the Knight Foundation?

When we visited the set, one of the things the fx group told us is that whatever they do, GST will always ask "OK, but can we make it cooler?" Now maybe at times they go too far trying to make things cool and the reality of budgets/schedules get in the way. But I think that's a great attitude coming down from the top: one that is always trying to push to make things better.

After watching him in the
Comic Con reveal video somethign strikes me as off-key.
I'm not entirely sure what it was, but I think it had something to do with his answer when asked about what the old fans would recognize? he replied "nothing. this is a whole new show." and Justin had to jump in and say "we've kept parts of the mythology".
Doesn't seem like the right attitude to me.. But who knows what will and wont work with this show.

Once he got on board, the pace picked up, the show started finding a direction (albeit slowly) and mythology became a factor (as opposed to the Pilot, which was filled with homages and bad references, but little essence or opportunity for expansion). It's still not solid enough, but I think it's the first time I've ever seen a show where the promises made are kept and the potential realized; usually it's just "hype talk", in this case I can actually believe what the showrunners say.
I don't have any warm feelings for the guy; never watched a single Fast and Furious film and I've seen, like, two episodes of Las Vegas. But his involvement has, as far as I'm concerned, benefited the show.

it's like they want to make a whole new show, that has very little if anything to do with the first one, but say it's a continuation to make it okay. if that makes any sense at all. i think the show has been good so far, but i have yet to see any true connection to the original. but i'll keep watching.

Well, yeah, for the most part so far all we have is a few "cute" little references that are there mainly to appease us, maybe in an attempt at distraction. But we've known for awhile now that the initial episodes were going to be light on the big connections to the original series. The thing is though they NEED to get up and moving on their own before going back to the past, the more they rely on it the more it might be considered a crutch, not to mention turn off new fans who may not have seen the original series. It has to be eased in a bit as to not overwhelm the potential new audience which, sorry to say, is just as important if not more so.
Personally I've had a lot of doubts on GST, especially since I'm by no means a fan of the Fast and the Furious, I'd go so far as to say that I despise the film series for the stupidity it's helped spawn or bring more attention to. But as for decisions made on the show that you don't like, he might be to blame for some of it but so does the writers and the real powers that be, NBC/Universal.

I'd say this new series was F&F meet Bourne Identity (Michael's memory loss and people holding events from him), meet James Bond meet Mission Impossible with a bit of KR thrown in.
It's practically stolen all kinds of ideas.

Let's wait a few more episodes, and then made a balance of the work done. I believe there are still more ideas to come.

I for one think he's doing an amazing job and I just know he has something big planned for us. After watching Vegas I believe he creates the charactet's on his shows for a reason and a purpose and usually plans plot lines and character developement that advance the show in a very positive manner. I really think all the KITTCrew is there for a reason and I'm sure they will make the story exciting and intriguing.
yay, post 100!

GST is handling the show very well with a positive attitude & confidence with wanting to see the show succeed & how yes, this is "Knight Rider" still, but more on a continuated update of the series from the '80's show.

This man is the logical choice to run this show and honestly he is also a fan of the origional. And he is doing well in doing what he wants but he can't usually always do that due to NBC being stupid and cutting out good scenes that could the make the show darker! But other than that he is a awesome choice to run this show!

I think GST is doing a pretty good job so far. Face it, if he knew the show was gonna b a big fat suckjob,
he would've given them the big "Adios!" already. By the same token, if NBC or Universal thought he was
gonna turn it into a suckjob, they would've given him the "Adios!" Neither party would've agreed if KR08
was goin' nowhere.

i have every right to voice my opinion, if the show has something positive i will give it credit, i started out liking the show when i saw the 2 hr pilot, but i am very dissapointed with the direction the series has taken. and i am not bashing the show for no reason, i have very legitimate reasons. excuse me if i'm not brainwashed by nbc universals updated version of team knight rider.

Guys,
This is one of those topics that is bound to create tension. Whilst I personally believe that it's too early to judge the job that Gary is in the process of doing, I think it's important to remember that we're all here for the same reason, and that's to debate the posts that are made, and not the people that make them.
