Nielsen Ratings for 9/24

Early numbers from the overnights are trickling in. There is the potential for them to change:
Yet another hour of Dancing with the Stars won the 8pm slot with an 8pm 10.3/17. David Blaine from 9pm-11pm netted a 5.0/8, and these numbers were likely aided by the Bush address as the first half hour had the highest rating (6.7/10).

Bones scored a 6.1/10 in the metered markets, but Fox’s comedies are DOA with ‘Til Death snaring a 3.2/5 and Do Not Disturb scoring a 2.5/4. The only reason we can come up with that Do Not Disturb has not already been replaced is that Fox has nothing to replace it with.

The series premiere of Knight Rider only pulled a 4.9/8 at 8pm. It will be interesting to see how it did among 18-49 year olds. America’s Got Talent scored a 6.8/10 at 9pm, and at 10pm the season premiere of Lipstick Jungle sunk to a 4.7/7. Ouch.

America’s Next Top Model on CW had a 3.3/5 in the early metered market report. We’ll have the full overnight report up with viewer numbers and demographic data as soon as we’ve seen the fast affiliate data.

i would say that those numbers arent to bad as compared to the fox numbers for there comedy block
and NBC is advertising knight rider with ad banners on various websites so those are decent numbers
IMO

Do you think the releasing of it online had an impact on it's ratings? That's not a great figure for a series premiere...

Speaking of that, is the online premiere counted in any way, shape or form to the overall ratings of the show, or is it a separate figure or simply just not counted at all?

In my opinion the early online premiere hurt the show. It gave more access to sites with immature bloggers, amateur reviewers and uncensored fan comments to rip apart the show and give it bad word-of-mouth before it even actually aired on television.

the 18-49 numbers will be key, cause thats their target.

It also doesn't take into affect the online premier- which I feel probably hurt these ratings (they should have only released half the episode or just the first 10 minutes, thus forcing people to tune in).

I wonder how they will combine the two data, and also how they will get the data for the online being that there was so many outlets showing it.

I don't know if it makes a difference, but at least where I am, the premire was delayed 15 minutes because of the president's speech. i was planning to record it on my DVR because i had already seen the episode online, but fortunately, I was in the right place at the right time to record it manually.

As exciting as it was to be able to watch the premiere online a week early, I do believe that they hurt their own ratings by doing it. Unless all other forms of "watching" are counted such as downloads, Tivo recordings, iTunes sales, etc. the numbers aren't going to look pretty.

I do wonder if week 2 will go up in ratings since it won't be put online a week ahead for free AND the President won't be interrupting it.

I am hopeful it gets better as the show goes on. I have said before that you gotta give any new show 2-4 epsidoes before you call for the axe. I'm just saying.

It wouldn't surprise me if the ratings went up. Neislon it self doesn't count the online ratings however I am pretty sure NBC will count the online preview and how many people actually clicked to watch it and the next weeks episode into factor.

I would be absolutely devastated if they took this show off the air. They already took off my other favorite show on their sister station Sci-Fi.

I thought last nights episode rocked and was very impressed with it. I like how they turned Michael's name into Michael Knight. I am curious to learn more about his past and why he doesn't remember a lot of things.

:kitt:

I think they will count the hits they got at least on their own site and maybe hulu's. Plus it was up against the megapower of Dancin with the Stars and Bones. Next week when Dancing isn't on and there's a few more views in the timeslot hopefully it'll pick up some more viewers. It's stiff competition nowadays so i think that the rating is pretty good for a series like Knight Rider which isn't just a CSI version 8. I just hope NBC thinks about that too. Also i thought they were gearing it more towards younger kids being on in the 8 timeslot and all?

They also beat Sarah Connor Chronicals - while not a direct competitor for the timeslot - it is the same audience. They only got a 3.9/6 this week to put it in perspective.

What would something like "Heroes" or "Lost" expect to pull in weekly in the US?

I just noticed that it tied Heroes' Season Premeire rating from Monday and Heroes is in it's 3rd Season.

Let's just hope NBC lets the show hold for a while. Even though we discussed the premiere at length a week earlier, it might have hurt the ratings for Wednesday's premiere.

That, and this is the era of Tivo...

Hmmm...third place finish, with our 18-49 share being OK at best.

Like I said, I hope they give it time, or at least until mid season. By then, Dancing will be done, and we'll only have to contend with Bones.

something i noticed doing a bit of research into NBC's ratings for this week is that every show, with exception of the second hour of Heroes, has been in the 3rd spot on the ratings.
Which means, if you look at it by the way NBCs ratings are going... that the show might get picked up, as it's staeady with how their other show's ratings are....

i typed "ratings" way too many times...

I have the complete overnight ratings. It's a giant spreadsheet which I'm trying to sort through and I'm no expert.

I like to put a lot of positive spin on things, but yes we have to accept that the numbers weren't great. However, there are some hopeful facts in the numbers:

The ratings increased in the 8:30-9:00 slot. Often this is caused by a more popular show ending at 8:30, but Knight Rider was already beating "The New Adventures of Old Christine" from 8:00-8:30. What this means to me is taht the people who watched Knight Rider stayed with it. Many shows lose an audience as the night goes on.

It won all of the Male demographics for the timeslot. Ratings are broken down into many different subcategories. From 8:00-9:00, Knight Rider was #1 in males 18-34, #1 in males 25-54, also #1 in kids 2-11.

Knight Rider had unusually tough competition against Dancing With The Stars, which had the end of its 3-part premiere last night. Next week, it's up against Pushing Daisies which may get a bit of an Emmy bump. The tough pill to swallow is Bones, which beat Knight Rider last night and will be up against it again next week.

Heroes had a disappointing 10 million viewers on Monday according to The Hollywood Reporter. Last year's premier had about 12 million viewers.

Dancing with the Stars 15.57 million viewers 18-49 demo 3.6/10

Bones 9.61 million 18-49 demo 3.1/9

Knight Rider 7.3 milllion 18-49 demo 2.4/7

New Adventures of Old Christine 6.7 million 18-49 demo 2.1/6

Gary Unmarried 6.84 million 18-49 demo 2.3/6

The bottom line is sadly, if Knight Rider doesn't increase substancially NBC will cancel it. They will not keep a high budget show with those low ratings. As of now the show is considered a flop. Sorry but that's the way it is.

According the the news page, we won three key demographics. Hopefully, that will be enough for NBC to keep us around.

we must wait for next week and see what rating will make the episode without pre-release ;)

From what i usually hear the overall ratings don't mean as much as the demo ratings so if it won all the male demos then i would assume NBC would be happy. After all, i doubt they expected to pull in many female viewers. It's definately a good sign that the numbers increased throughout the show. Next week will be the big teller. If it increases or stays the same and wins the demo again i think we'll be safe. If it falls more than 10% i fear we'll be done. The silver lining is that Pushing Daisies doens't get the amount of viewers that Dancing does so the leftovers will hopefully come check out the show. Bad news is it's probably gonna beat us and Bones next week. So we're pretty much looking at the #3 spot so we have to try and catch up to Bones. Here's hoping!
