Passive Laser Restraint System in New KR?

I was just re-watching "Knight in Shining Armor" and I caught something I must have previously missed...

Before the opening credits, when KITT transforms from the 4x4 mode to regular mode - he says "Transformation Complete". Immediately after that, it's hard to tell, but it sounds like he says "Passive Restraint System Activated". If true, this would be yet another nod to the original series. anybody confirm/deny this?

Kitzira thought it was "Occupant Restraint System."
Either way it’s an obvious nod. -As well as a nice way to keep them from having to put on their seat belts in every scene.

I for one would like to see the Passive Restraint system fail and they have to use the good ol fashion seat belts. I want my kids wearing there seat belts and this was one idea that I could have done without in the OS. Or at least give a disclaimer hehe. I sound old now :(. Don't get me wrong it's a cool idea but one for the 80's when not wearing your seat belt was optional not nationwide law. If they just don't mention it, kids wouldn't even notice the actors didn't have them on but when they advertise that they are not wearing them because of n advanced feature kids will think this is the "cool" thing to do. I liked it when Russo had to strap in the first time she rode in KITT.

Explain to them there's a difference between fantasy and reality and that in real life. Even Mike had an instance of not firmly being in place in the car when KITT made a sudden stop.

I had a real hard time believing a single thing that happened in the first episode, so I think they might as well bring back the Passive Laser Restraint System.

Also, there is one quick clip of K.I.T.T.'s voice modulator emitting a blue scanning laser to a picture, so we know the dashboard is capable of emitting lasers.

I tried to do that for every child in the world. Parents got angry with me :(.

Well that's for parents in general. :P It's not so hard to at least say "our car isn't KITT" even if they'd want to think other wise. ;) It's not hard at all for kids, even young children to get it through that there's a difference between what you see on TV and reality. I mean it doesn't have to be in a "destroying childhood fantasy" kind of way but just reel them in a bit.

I think lack of seat belts is one of the few lame things about the original series. Why would you not want a seat belt??? The "passive laser restraint system" is fine, but what if it fails or loses power? A seat belt is more reliable. That's just a safety issue man, you want that!!! :)

It's not like all of us who are about 30 or maybe a little older didn't grow up with seat belts being REQUIRED...hasn't it been that way in most US states since the 80s??? Wikipedia says the first state to require people to use them was New York State in 1984. If you're 34 you weren't driving before seat belt requirements. You'd have have to be I think 41 before you turned 16 before 1984.

Regardless, I think it is stupid to drive any distance without a seat belt!!! Especially a high performance vehicle like KITT!!! NASCAR, Formula 1, etc., all wear safety harnesses!!! Cops wear seat belts too!!!

I'm not sure that it should be illegal....but it just makes sense!!!

--Brian (has never driven a car but ALWAYS has his helmet on while riding his bicycle...and wears his seat belt when a passenger in a car!)

I've been rewatching the first episode on my iPhone KITT does NOT say Passive Laser Restraint System active

he says Occupant Restraint System active.

That should solve the debate and/or question of what KITT says

Yeah but you're crossing fantasy (KITT) with reality/everything else. Characters in other vehicles should wear them in other cars, aside from bad guys because bad guys usually are too cool or bad for seat belts.

I have no problem with the occupants in KITT not wearing them, though perhaps a mention by a guest character asking where they're at might be a good idea.

I noticed the first time watching it that he said something about that but I forgot to rewind the episode after it was over to confirm thats what he said. I thought he said passive laser restraint activated as well. Was it just me or did that quote seem kind of muted like they were not sure if they wanted to play it at full volume so it was easily noticed or not. I thought it was a nice referance to the original
