New Series Music?

Hey Guys,
gonna have a quick whine about the pilots music
the music in the pilot opening credits werent too bad,, but for me atleast it wasnt knight ridery enough.
after the first few seconds of the classic knight theme it went off in a tangent however it seemed to fit the visuals.
(the visuals of the K3000 driving just driving around ..doesnt beat the classic kitt doing special things opening)
i know its 25 years on and a new series but its title is Knight Rider shouldnt they atleast update the old theme abit more? make it play abit more throughout the show
not only that the music throughout the pilot show seemed to fit something like the O.C / or saved by the bell LOL
that type of teen based series
i guess its not surprising i think the guy responsible for the music worked on the O.C.
however the Kitt Chase music was pretty good, but knight rider even though it had current hits of the day included always had a theme, no matter what was playing you knew knight rider was on for instance Junk yard dog, knight of the drones, Kitt vs Karr.
what do you think
thanks

Yeah... the theme was a bit overdone. I would have kept the original score and put the beats and vibes over it, but it wasn't that bad. It fits.
And as for in-music:
What was always cool was that there was always at least one sorta fresh hit, generally Michael listening to some music while they cruised (Maniac... We Don't Need Another Hero... you get the drift). That really fit in and made things smoother.
And then there is the actual music. Don Peake should get an award for managing the rearrange the theme score into so many fitting, good-sounding variations. I just couldn't hear the right notes during the pilot...

Didnt someone say on here a while ago that if it were picked up as series that the theme would performed by a different artist every week???
having heard the KR08 theme, i like that as it is. It has more of an edge to it, and the idea of having different arrangements everyweek will damage the franchise i think.
you know how it is, you're in the other room while TV is on in the background, then you hear your favourite shows theme tune, it instantly sets the mood (and if you're reaaaalllly sad, you can picture the credits...) but having different arrangements every week might damage the identity factor that the show had/has...

They won't make a new theme every week, the royalties alone they'd have to pay to do that for each new piece of music be it a remix or whatever would be rather expensive and I doubt the alloted budget for the series would allow for that extra expense.

You're right about that, iirc it was Shapeshifter who said that, or maybe in one of the articles or interviews, okay I don't remember at all where but I did read it and it was said by someone in the know.

Yes where did that thread go? I think we last left it saying everything is open for discussion now that GST is on board. And again, I’m still a fan of the new theme.

Yeah but they also usually went cheap and used cover versions, which in the end might have been a good idea seeing what happened with other older shows, their licensed music and Universal's cheapness.

Shapeshifter originally posted the statement that NBCU wanted to have the theme done by a different artist for each weeks episode waaaay back when the backdoor pilot was still being hashed out. I posted the same response that I posted here, not going to happen with royalties involved.

That's exactly how we
Knight Rider fans got lucky and only had 2 songs removed for the entire series (both performed by Prince if I remember correctly). If the original series used the actual artists' songs, there would have been thread after thread of outrage on how the episodes were butchered like what happened with
Quantum Leap. On rare occasions the real song was used, but I think it was as little as 2 or 3 songs, so not much cash to shell out on Universal's part compared to other shows.
In regards to the backdoor pilot not utilizing the new
KR theme the same way that Stu Phillips and Don Peake rearranged it in various ways for the original series, I believe the idea was to save the theme for the finale of the movie to signify the beginning of Mike and K.I.T.T.'s partnership. I'm sure the same techniques will be used throughout the series. I just hope it doesn't become like
Dawson's Creek with an announcer saying, "Tonight's episode of
Knight Rider featured music from..."
