Michael (Long) was a dirty cop?

Post by screaming_chicken » Tue Oct 11, 2005 9:29 am

Where did Michael (Long) take the money to buy Pontiac Trans Am in year 1982.
I think they cost like hell in year 1982 ?
Or maybe Trans Am was only undercover police vehicle?

He could have inherited money from his parents' death, or just had money saved already.

I have Finnish V8 Magazine from 1983 that have testdrive report of '83 black & gold Pontiac Trans-Am and it tells the starting price has been for a Trans-Am $7976 USD at the time. I of course don't know how the value of the dollar have been so I don't know how expensive it has been in 1983 for American's.
That same report tells that in Finland it would've been cost over 300.000 FIM at the time, maybe that explains why early 80's Trans-Am's are so extremely rare here
Oh, and welcome to the KRO :)

Trans Ams weren't that expensive. That's one of the reasons why they were so popular in the U.S. The Corvette was more of the semi-wealthy man's sports car.

It all depends on where your priorities are: if an 80s cop wanted to drive a hot-looking car, he shouldn't have had too much trouble saving up for a Trans Am.

And also, nothing says he had to have had it paid off. :)

I didn't think Michael Long was a dirty cop; he was just
caught in the line of fire, thanks to a bust gone bad, and I didn't hear anything about Michael long needing to pay off any debts, either....

What does a debter do when a person/payee pass away?

Mind you, some of Long's fellow police officers were in on his new life. But, otherwise, he was completely remade as Knight.

like weird al yankovic, they "eat it"

meaning if you owe money to a credit card company or for a car or whatever, if you die, they usually just eat the loss, thats what insurance is for.

A little off topic,But I thought I would mention that I know of 2 82 trans Am's that were purchased new in 82 for police use with the Missouri highway patrol. One was light blue and even had a spot light on the drivers side .Luckily I helped myself to its Turbo Cast wheels since the owner didn't know squat about knight rider  8)

The other one was painted orange and used in Pennsylvania.

And if you rent one of the Cannonball Run movies you'll see them use a few 82 trans am police cars with Turbo cast wheels and bowling ball caps 8)

I'm new,but I do a lot of surfing.I click on a link in here, wich was about the before and after of micheal long!

While he was a boy,he saved as much money as he could. When he reached his teens,he had enough to buy the trans am!

It was a very interesting story, and if I find the link again,i will bring it in here! It's all about his younger days, his first love and so on,all the way to his first meet with wilton, long before KARR was even built!

You musn't forget that Michael Long was a "beret vert" & a special forces, he went to Vietnam during 3 years.

And back to a "normal" life as a police officer, after 10 years he became a lieutnant for Los Angeles Departement.

So all theses statues gave him enough money I think for bought a TA...

I was only a kid in the early 80's, but my older brother bought a brand new T/A in 1984. At that time, he was only a high-school student with a part time job. I therefore don't think T/A's were THAT far out of reach....although back then, he did beat enough lunch money out of me to at least partially fund this investment....

Unfortunately, the value of money actually does the opposite, or divides, every decade or so because inflation, or the amount of money needed to purchase common goods, grows each year by (hopefully) a small amount.
