Corvettes and Camaros are KITT wannabees

Post by Hunta the Red » Sat Aug 27, 2005 8:23 am

I get pissed off when I see both of them because Chevelot Corvettes and Camaros look like they stole the model (and Idea) from the Pontiac Trans-Am/KITT.

They are just fake KITT's

Later I will supply some links as proof

Pontaic should sue Chevolet

Well,

If you stop to think about it, most may consider that statement the other
way around. The Camaro and Corvette were on the market before the
Trans Am ever came out.

But The Camaro and Corvette sukk they only fit 2 people

THE Trans-Am/Kitt didn't copy off of it they fit 4 to 5 people

Plus The Camaro and Corvette didn't come with spoilers compared to a Trans-Am which did

But on your quote I could have sworn that Trans-Am's came out like in the 50's and 60's way before The Camaro and Corvette came out

The Corvette was first released in 1953, the Camaro in 1967 and then the Firebird the same year (but the Camaro was the initial project, it was Delorean's idea to give Pontiac the opportunity to sell a sister car). The Trans AM was only released in 1969.

And for your information, as the Camaro and Firebird share exactly the same body, they are both 4 seaters.

It was only recently when I started looking at Firebirds & Camaros I realised, a 80s Camaro has same door trim & rear seating area trim as KITT, I thought the seller had pictures wrong!

Pontiac can't sue Chevrolet. Both Pontiac and Chevrolet are part of General Motors Corp. ;) GM put out cars of the same body style in different brands before. Like their A-Body cars, there was Olds Cutlass Cierra (Oldsmobiles has since been retired as a car line), Chevrolet Celebrity, Buick Century and Pontiac 6000. All of these cars look similar and share some of the same engines. However, General Motors (GM) put the styles out for different brands of theirs to appeal to the masses (some are Pontiac fans more than they are Buick fans, etc.)

So really, the brands can't sue each other. GM decides what brands get what car body styles and what to do with them. :)

Nope, Pomtiac was last in line.

and to update your information, Camaro and Firebirds are the same car.
Both hold the same amount of people. I am not sure where you got 2
from but that aint right. Both built on the same chassis, just different
body styles. Thats it.

I heard on some TLC or history channel program that DeLorean snuck the Firebird past GM brass and when they found out they demanded that Pontiac allow Chevy (GMs dedicated sports car branch) the opportunity to build there own which became the Camaro. They never took the project away from PMD. I always thought that's how it went down. Pontaic was allowed to keep the GTO because it started out as an option group. Pontiac doctrinally should not be allowed to produce a sports car.

There was a Firebird in the 50s or early 60s (pre-Mustang). Didn't Pontiac build a rocket car named the Firebird XP something?

If I am not mistaken they are all "F-body"s right? Or am I confused?

Yeah, same basic shell. As I understood it, Pontiac handed the designs over and Chevy modified it into the Camaro.
KITT project is on again!

Currently working on: brand new stock tan interior, almost done!

It was turbine-powered and was called the Firebird 2, aka, 'the extension of my manhood car'. See, MST3K CAN help you in real life situations!

I like all 3 of those cars but KITT is my favorite!! But I think it's his personality. My mom has a 1963 split window corvette and it's a good looking car. Oh and she use to fit like six kids in it. Go figure i guess we were like clowns. :D

You should see MacGyver 1st season episode "The Prodigal", there's yellow 1982-198? Chevrolet Camaro and listen the sound effects, they are the same as KITT's engine & tire screech in Knight Rider.
When MacGyver's chasing the bad guys with the Camaro, it remindes very much a scene from Knight Rider: the camera mounted just in front of the windshield, showing MacGyver behind the steeringwheel and Camaro's tan interior, very familiar view ;)

its the same thing GM did with the chevy cavelier and pontiac sunbird.. they were the exact same frame and engine but the pontiac cost more because they gave it more horse power due to it being a "sports" car. same with the camera and firebird. pretty sure the firebird/TA used to cost more than the cameros.
