Someone owns the actual screen car. After KR2000, the car was used as a Police Car in the Power Rangers Movie a few years ago. A few months ago it was then put on eBay. I'll look for the link where there was a discussion on it on another board. Later Though. 8)

The car is a Dodge Stealth with a customized shell that resembles the Pontiac Banshee. Pontiac wouldn't let the producers use the actual car, so they had to build their own and make it slightly different. Last I heard, the car was repainted black and white and used as a futuristic cop car in a Power Rangers movie.

EDIT: Sorry, Samir, we posted at the same time.

The car was based on a 1991 Dodge Stealth.

The two cars that were used went from being used in other films
such as CHiPS 99, Power Rangers and an episode of Scare Tatics
on sci fi channel. Both car sold recently on eBay. They were beat up
pretty bad one one didn't even run any longer.

I know one of the ended up back at the studio that build them originally
and has been fully restored to new condition. Last I knew they were
looking for a steering wheel for it.

The other one, I couldn't tell you it where abouts or current condition.
there was a Boat version as well but unsure where that one is.

Hope that helps a bit!

EDIT, typing myself at the same time, similar answers. LOL :D

The producers picked the Stealth because they thought it was the most high-tech-looking car on the road at the time. I wonder, though, why that would matter if they were just going to build a shell over it anyway.

The one on eBay (the one that drove orginally but now has a busted engine) ended up here in CA I recall. Pictures of the it after it was restored where floating around the Foundation and Registries last year. The owner wishes to have nothing to do with us anymore unfortunately (or so I heard).
KITT project is on again!

Currently working on: brand new stock tan interior, almost done!

Actually, they used the Stealth only because the studio had an extra one
sitting around that was left over from another film. Or so I have been told.

The car is a red Dodge Stealth from 1991. It did it's first apperiance on Knight Rider 2000. The movie was ment to become a TV show and they wanted to air the movie every week as they did with Knight Rider from the 80's. However the movie didn't become that popular so they stopped the production. After that the car was used in different movies and TV shows. In other words the car went to an demolition derby! Imagine how the a car would feel if it were to be repainted 10 times for different apperiances. Having cameras all over the car. TOTAL RAPING!!! Hehehe... anyway, below is a very good site in wich you can go and read more carefully about Knight Rider 2000 and what they did with the car after that!
Michael: Kitt what matters to me is who you are not what you look like. Sure we don't have the car so we can't turbo boost so we can't go over 200 miles an hour but it was all icing on the cake anyway

The following is an excerpt from Knight Rider Legacy in which the director of Knight Rider 2000, Alan J. Levi, is interviewed:

"K.I.T.T. was to go as high-tech as possible and Levi looked at a number of production automobiles and decided that the highest tech-looking one was the Dodge Stealth. Alan J. Levi adds, 'The body was short and that's what we wanted. We didn't have to beef-up the car that much.'"
