Coin Operated KITT Car - I would sure love this!

Post by TurbomanKnight » Tue Dec 28, 2004 10:04 pm

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 35425&rd=1 Its coin opperated! But you can hack it to just opperate on electric juice. I saw a car similar to this in South Carolina. It was a Trans Am Police Car with a scanner. I was like "HOLY S**T" Then I had to leave before i could of rode it. But then again try to fit a 6FOOT 14 year old in a car that puny.

I think there was someone in the past on this board that ran into an old one of these painted pink at a supermarket, and posted pictures with her kid in them. Anyone remember who that was? Trekie was it you?

Too bad the picture is so dark....sounds like a really neat item! Keep the coin door unlocked and all ya need is one quarter, lol. :)

I got one of those in front of the Albertsons across the street from me. It's painted red for some odd reason though. A part of me wants to sneak over some night and spray paint it completely black (and airbrush on a glowing scanner while I'm at it).

There was one these in front of a local K-mart painted black and white with "Kid Kop" painted on the side. I think it also had a "54" for a number, which I'm sure some people will recognize :) I'd never seen it used and I'd always meant to talk to the manager to see if he'd be interested in selling/getting rid of it, but then the store closed in the rash of K-Mart closing and it disappeared.

There is one of these in front of my local King Kullen supermarket, but painted yellow and orange with "Dupont" written on it. The cowl induction hood and red scanner remain though. I think all of these are just refurbished old machines so that the arcade companies could cut corners and save money. Since Knight Rider isn't considered mainstream, I suspect these companies found it easier to paint them as race cars. If I ever have a digital camera on me (if I ever get one) I will snap a picture and post it.

For all us UK fans theres one at the 'cars of the Stars' museum in Cumbria. And every now and again it goes.. "Knight Rider" in a computerised voice.

I finally got myself a camera phone (a black Motorola Razr V3), so I was able to take some pictures of that refurbished K.I.T.T. at the supermarket. Enjoy!

Hey that is a really cool find. There is a place near us called "The Soda Jerk" and they have a car that looks suspiciously like KITT, right down to the scanner, hood and hubcaps! The whole thing has been painted over to match the restaurant. I must admit that I freaked several people out when I released who the car really was :D

Yes that was me. The car is now long gone from my local Kmart but it did stay there for like 5 years.

That's the same model as the car by my supermarket, but with a different paint job.

they dont keep auction listings up long after it's ended, since the original thread was posted back in December 04 and it's now July 05 I figure that's why ya cant see it.

I'd be interested to see another one posted again. Once I get my new place, I may just splurge on one to restore
