New KITT Suggestions

Post by lando33 » Tue Mar 26, 2002 3:03 pm

I really hope they don't update KITT for the movie. Any care other than an 82 trans am isn't KITT!!!

Here's what others think about the subject: http://www.knightrideronline.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=2&t=000032

While we would love to see it back, they have become a bit of a rare breed, even just driving them, without the stunts, they would have to take great care not to mess up whichever ones they could get.

Yet in the Dukes of Hazzard film's there were enough 69 Dodge Chargers to make two great stunt filled film's, Go Figure.

Yea...well, Dukes put Dodge Chargers closer to the top of the vehicle extinction list.

i still think that with today's computer technology, they COULD return to the black trans Am. These days, they would only need one car, and from there, computer speciall effects and simulated cars for stunts could take over.

It would work and we'd have our lovable ol' pal KITT back the way he's supposed to be..

Problems with having KITT return permanently as an 82 Trans-Am:

Back when KR started, the car was new, now it is most certainly out of date. (They look cool, but they are not as common as they used to be.)

Too much computer generated effect will look like a badly made cartoon, and actually hike up the price of production.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see the 82 T/A over a modern one anyday, and above and beyond everything else, but there is the other side of the coin to look at as well.

This is the final design concept that I drew up for KITT in the new movie. This design was the one I sent to David Hasselhoff and he said he'd keep it in mind when they developed the new project.

You're (bleep)ing awesome!! Only one thing missing(other than Bowling Ball hubs but oh well)... the final touch. Driver side raised triangular cowl induction. You put a form of it on the ruff sketch but left it out of the colorized version. It would look sooooo kewel! besides that was like the most noticible piece in SPM because it raised up and had those lights and stuff under it. And maybe just maybe the movie would create a big interest in the firebirds and Pontiac wouldn't kill off the model. I'd love to see the birds brought back and driver side cowl induction reintroduced to the model.

The pictures are AWESOME! I just hope Hasselhoff takes them into consideration.

Does anyone know the address to Hasselhoff's fan club?

Just seen your designs. THEY ARE EXXXXXXXCELENT!!!!!!!!!!

It so could be KITT, if they don't use your ideas then they had better come up with something as good.

Have you designed an interior for the new Kitt?

Great design but what about an overhead console in place of that interior mirror?

What car to use in movie?

Post by Michael Pajaro » Thu Aug 08, 2002 2:54 am

Everyone wants to know what kind of car KITT will be in the new movie. We don't know.

Pontiac is working with Revolution on cross-promoting their cars with xXx. If they have a successful relationship, they may want to try again with Knight Rider. That's good news.

But Trans Ams are no longer a current model for Pontiac. That's bad news.

But Hollywood can do anything they want, right? They can certainly get their hands on a one-year-old Trans Am and tweak it to be the new KITT. That's good news.

But Pontiac probably won't want to cross-promote a car which they are phasing out of production. That's bad news.

So where does this leave us? Right where we started. There is no reason to automatically assume that KITT won't be a Trans Am, but there's no reason to assume he will be one either.

What car to use in movie?

Post by sarfraz » Thu Aug 08, 2002 7:32 am

Personally speaking, I'm finding harder and harder to believe KITT will be a Trans-AM. Theres a greater chance the car will come from another GM company such Cheverolet. Simply put, can you imagine KITT as anything other than an American Muscle car. I can't, and for that reason something like a Pontiac GTO doesn't appeal to me. It looks more like a family car (sedan?) which has been adapted to look like a sport car, rather than a true muscle car. Saying that, there aren't many true muscle cars left...are there?

....and then you have to take into account that KITT didn't look too obvious as a Trans-AM. A Dodge Viper KITT would be OTT.
