Where is that place?

Here's a question that's bugged me ever since Knight Rider's premiere ep. When you see Kitt racing across the desert at the very begining (opening credits) where was that filmed at?

Nevada desert i think, they were in Las Vegas anyway so it would make sense to go to the desert bit and do the opening credits.

I thought that question would stump everyone. I always thought it might be Death Valley or like Knightshade said in Utah.

And Mike, I like that coin. That would make a great good luck piece,LOL (sure could use a lot of that!)

From what I know and for the book, Wayne Fitzgerald was the man who shot those intro sequences according to Glen Larson. Larson is still trying to track him down for us, but apparently the sequence was not one of the first things shot, but one of the last.

That makes sense, if taped first, they might have gone with that awful first nose on KITT with the scanner on the end of it rather than under the hood as seen in some of the beginning moments in the pilot.

I still wonder why they block off or leave off the first and eighth lights of the scanner in the opening credits, but no where else in the show?

It's also obvious cos the openin credits have clips of the pilot ep in them so it makes sense they left it till last.

That's funny. There are so many joke coins that people could come up with. In fact, I think Illinois' should be a Tommy gun.

I believe it was the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, but I can't prove it. I remember hearing that as a kid and I know there are a lot of auto testing facilities out there, but I don't have an article or anything concrete to back that up. But it was definitely somewhere out west.

I remember those first cars. They look awful like that. I have or had a book with a lot of those pictures in it. I don't think the dash was the same as Kitt just a standard T/A dash, round steering wheel and the scanner way out front like that. Ugh!
