Michael at the Casino in "Goliath Part II"

Post by Allen » Wed Dec 17, 2003 10:52 pm

First off, I just have to comment on Garthe's hair. He's spent the past several years in an African prison, and when he returns to the States, he has a blown-dry hairstyle identical to Michael's. And then there's the goatee. That added touch always makes a person the villain.

How does KITT manipulate the dice? I can assume that the video on his tvs is tapped from the casino's security system. But what's up with the white dots? Does KITT have the ability to manipulate matter by distance? This kind of technology belongs in an organization larger than a private, non-profit group.

Also, Michael walked away from the table with at least $100 thousand. At least. What did he do with it? And, technically, he cheated. He used an advantage to win, a system nobody else in the casino possessed.

Great episode, though.

Yeah, this is like the best episode in the second season. I didn't watch it on Sci-Fi this week, but I saw it a few months back. I thought it was better than a lot of episodes the first year. This just only has us to start seeing a different perspective of the show.

In the first season, we feel like Michael is a changed man turned into somebody he's not. The face he was given is just an idea chosen to make him look different from who he really is. But when you see "Goliath," you find out he was given that face for a reason. There was another man who was real blood to the family. But he chose to be evil and betrayed his father's good will. So therefore Michael was chosen to serve as the kind of man Wilton wanted.

I think it is rather odd that the man who was shot and left to die just happened to be the same size and have the exact hairstyle as the man he was made to look like. Ken Franklyn obviously had his own face cause he still went by his own name. I think he was an agent who did things the old fashioned way. Michael was the first to be "one man making a difference" with the assistance of a futuristic car.

Nobody knows for certain, but Michael may be the "second man making a difference" with the assistance of a futuristic car. We know Ken Franklyn was shot. But we don't know if he had KARR with him at the time. If he did, it would explain a lot about KARR being deactivated.

I don't think Ken Franklyn ever had KARR. He probably was sent off on missions the way a CIA agent would be.

My belief is that KARR was tested after being completed. His programming was found to be faulty, so the engineers deactivated him immediately. They realized he was not functioning right if he wasn't going to care for the human driver. That's why KITT was the next project to be built. Just a way of correcting a mistake. To do what they realized was missing in the first puzzle.

On the quick subject of KARR. I read a fan fic about KARR when he was first activated and what went wrong. It seemed very logical, and in my opinion 'Trust Doesn't Rust'. Or 'KITT vs. KARR' should have squeezed something like this in. It said when KARR went onto the test track, he was very excited and wanted to make Wilton proud. He performed perfecly on the obstical course, everything was going smoothly up until KARR ran over a bunch of human dummy's. When the test was over Wilton asked KARR "Why did you plow down those human manaquins?" KARR replied. "They wouldn't have damaged me, it was more logical to run through them then go around them." Wilton was shocked by KARR's answer. KARR didn't know right from wrong. So Wilton order KARR to drive back to the lab where he could be 'fixed'. KARR hesitantly obeyed. There he was deactivated...And KARR felt betrayed as he was shutting down. Hence his angry set up in TDR when he was reactivated.

Sounds familiar, like what KIFT said during his test run and was planning on going through the deer instead of around it, saying that "the deer wouldn't have caused any serious damage". Maybe KIFT was going to be the same way.

Oh, on a side note/question for those who actually watched TKR.... the episode with KRO... didn't he go insane because his driver did? Something about all the TKR cars, starting with KRO, were matched to their partner personality wise, and learned to adapt, so when the driver went nuts, the car did too and started killing people? Like 5 of them wasn't it? Oh well.

Another comment, if there was any TKR episode that was worth watching, it was that one. I sure wish I could find my tape of the eps. :?

The programming of the TKR vehicles were initially extracted/based upon the personalities of their drivers. Somehow Martin managed to get through whatever psychological testing they did, and they didn't realize he was unstable. The subtle flaws in Martin's mental stability were transfered to KRO.

If you have to watch just one episode of TKR, KRO is probably the one I would suggest. But "Legion of Doom" (the last episode) and "Et Tu Dante" (similar to Killer KITT) are also good episodes that hint at whay TKR could have been.

I believe I once put up a thread asking if KIFT was like KARR? I was trying to point out that Devon informed Maddock how the new car was superior to KITT in every way except for the fact it lacked his humanity. When the car had Maddock's voice, it had quite an attitude and only felt like talking when he thought it was worth it. But Michael reinstalled the voice we all know and that got the car acting like the black Trans-Am.

So basically until Michael inserted the voice of William Daniels, wasn't KIFT just a more advanced model of KARR?

Getting back to the original issue of how KITT manipulated the dice, it beats me.

The second draft of the script has KITT using his microwave jammer to controle a roulette wheel. IIRC, that trick ended up working its way into a Season 3 episode, though I could be mistaken.

(The section of the script involved is way too long to post here. If you go to that page and do a "Find" for "INT. CASINO - CLOSE ON ROULETTE WHEEL - DAY" it should take you right to the beginning of the scene.)

I find the roulette wheel idea more realistic.

Weird, I thought the same thing, I randomly picked Knight by a Nose to watch today. Since the roulette wheel was undoubtly rigged by something electronic, it is more believable, I think, that KITT can manipulate that.

^Me too. Maybe they had some sort of difficulties in getting the scene to work right, so they switched to the craps table instead.

They probably saw the craps table as more dramatic and confrontational. When you look at it from a psychological perspective, Michael had to roll the dice, it was like it was an insult directly from his hands, rather than an impersonal wheel.

Craps is a more personal game than roulette is. When you go foul on a roulette wheel, you blame the wheel. When you go foul in craps, you blame the person who rolled the dice.

To even make what KITT did SLIGHTLY believable would be if the dice had some kind of magnetic rigging in them. Other than that, I don't know how he did it.

Just like doors. I understand how he unlocks electronic doors and electronic locks on safes...but when they're just normal lock and key doors, how can KITT have any power over them?
Michael: "KITT! Where are ya?!"
