Wheels Of Fury

Hope this hasn't been brought up before , bit I just got word of a new movie that is being put out by MGM called "Wheels of Fury" and it is a total Knight Rider Knockoff. It was in a DH NeEwsletter I got a couple days ago. Here is what it said:

Talking Cars...... KR in trouble??
The race is on to bring talking-car movies to the bigscreen.
MGM late on Friday picked up Ron Anderson´s comedy spec "Wheels of Fury", a comedy that´s described between "Austin Powers" and "Knight Rider", revolving around an "80s cop whose partner is a talking car. The cop falls into a coma and wakes up 16 years later....

MGM pickup of "Wheels" comes as Revolution is in the midst of revving up a feature version of "Knight Rider" running NBC series that starred David Hasselhoff as Michael Knight, who fought crime with his partner talking Pontiac Trans Am.

I think this totally sucks and MGM should be sued.

That totally reeks of suckiness(hmmm,I think Iv'e been watching waaayyy too much wrestling )Anyhoo, I really hope DH and Revolution might move up production a year so they can be those jabronis at MGM!!! I predict the MGM movie will do nothing but help Knight Rider. Hollywood loves complaining about competition, but the reality is that similar movies tend to feed eachother. Antz and Bug Life both did very well. Same with Armageddon & Deep Impact. Volcano wasn't very successful, but I think that had more to do with it just being a bad movie.

When people start hearing about the MGM movie, the first thing they will think is "gee, that sounds like Knight Rider. Why don't they just go and make a Knight Rider movie instead?" Poof. Revolution has one. MGM won't be able to market their movie without getting people to think about Knight Rider. It's free advertising.

I'd have to agree with Mike, as long as there is association, people will flock to the real thing.

Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. Maybe it's a sign that Knight Rider about to have its second coming! Lets hope so, maybe it will convince those idiots at GM to bring back the Trans Am.

You might want to check other threads. It has not been confirmed that the Trans-Am will be permanently cancelled, just pulled off while it gets a redesign.

Knightimmortal, I hope your right. The new GTO or a retro camaro just won't feel the same.

I read that the retro camaro in 2004 would also be accompanied by a retro Trans-am but not sure if all of this has been scrapped or not. I did read recently that in 2004, 5, or 6 can't remember which that GM is bringing back the Chevelle and the El Camino.

Looking at old Chevelle pics on websites and stuff it appears to me that Chevelle eventually became known as Malibu.

I would like to know more information on the 2004 retro Trans-AM. I haven't heard of it and I have a subsciption to Car And Driver. I would like to see where that information was taken from, because I would want to find out the specs. Thanks ahead of time!

I'm a bit (ok, a chunk) of a performance car enthusiast, so the whole biz of the discontinuation of Firebirds really hit a nerve. To find out for myself, I went around to a bunch of sites, read scores of mags, and talked to people also, and the general concensus is that the 'Bird is only taking a hiatus, to come back later with better safety precautions built into the car. Basically, the 'Bird on a new frame. What the styling will look like, I dare not guess. Anyway, what will replace it, probably temporarily, is the new GTO, which is based on GM's Australian Holden Division sports car. There's a rumour that one version of it will sport the excellent 3800 Series II L67 supercharged six cylinder, like now used in Pontiac Grand Prix GTP's, Buick Riviera's, Bonnevilles, and so on(and Oldsmobile LSS Delta 88's from the mid 90's.) Higher end models will have GM's old standby, the 350, in some form or another. That should make gearheads a bit happier, since there's a whole universe of aftermarket parts for 350s.

Hope I've helped:)

Unfortunately, as long as MGM doesn't feature a black Trans Am named Kitt, or anything else directly ripped from KR, they are not infringing on any copyrights. Its been done before. Just like what 'Austin Powers' or 'Our man Flint' did for 007. I tend to agree with everyone else though. If people go see it they may walk out of the theatre going "wasn't that a show 20 years ago?" causing them to flock to the real deal when KR comes out in theatres.
KITT project is on again!

Currently working on: brand new stock tan interior, almost done!
