Never Did Like Devon When Series Progressed

Post by Passepartout » Wed Feb 07, 2018 1:16 am

I thought at times he was giving Michael way too much work. Liked Devon at first. But then Michael was giving way too much with having to cancel his plans like vacation or a date. And there was a time when he worked sixteen days straight and Devon would not let him have a day off

Devon became a major league bleep as the series went on and really did not treat Michael well at times. Both men should had come to a place of trust. And that Devon needed to at times get a life. As Devon had no life. Or that Michael should had taught him how to have one.

Yes Devon had a rough job and Michael should had threatened to quit and take Kitt with him regardless. Devon was putting a lot on Michael. He could not come or go like Kitt could. But that Michael should had really threatened to quit. Or get some backup.

Sure the FLAG was family to Michael but at times, he needed to get away like Bonnie got an apartment to get her space from FLAG. Wonder if Devon at times got to her.

I was trying to remember how a quote between Michael and Devon went, right after Michael wasn't appreciative about Wilton's offer. Then the whole 'you just struck at a dying man' drama bit went down.

Bet that Devon never did forget or forgive that moment. And probably had a kind of 'This stranger doesn't deserve this gift' attitude towards Michael...at least, until Michael proved himself.

Still he needed meaning Devon not to be such a jerk. As Michael proved himself. It was Devon IMHO that had the attitude at times. Michael should had flat out quit until Devon tried to call out to him. And really thought that Michael should had given him the reason you suck speech to Devon. Great boss at times, but needed humanity skills. Meaning he stinked as a human being at times. More than naught. Playing God in Michael's life crossed a line for Michael.

Even though Devon made Michael miss on a lot of vacations, he still always had Michaels best interest at heart. If there was something Michael really wanted to do, Devon always gave him extra time

Yeah but really at times Devon needed to be considerate. That is something really really Michael should had done. As well as really at times, tell off Devon. Sure he would probably be terminated. But at times, Devon can be not at all persuaded. He should had crawled on his knees asking Michael to come back if he did quit.

The only time he had Michaels' best interest at heart over in the marrying Stevie and serving as his best man. But other times I forget.

Wasn't Devon originally an engineer who was the team leader for creating KITT and probably KARR as well? Engineers and humanists seems to be totally different people :D
When Wilton Knight died, Devon sort of took his position at the Foundation. There was still higher bosses so for example Devon had to justify the costs for the board of directors so they may have given some pressure for Devon which ultimately ended up being pressure for Michael and KITT.
In Pilot episode, Devon suggested that most of the time the Foundation has only paperwork to do which would bore Michael to tears and it's only in some cases where direct action is necessary, that's when Michael and KITT go into the field. So maybe Michael actually had a lot of free time and Devon called him into action only when necessary?

Yeah and maybe he just did not have a life due to the fact of Wilton's daughter and the group at the FLAG making it harder. Devon should had told them to kiss his British you know what and join Michael. Both men have had differences. But for once they would eh....get a life!

From another viewpoint maybe work is what he needed and Devon knew this, Michael was a scarred man he had been shot in the face and his original identity had now been eradicated he had no family to speak of and if he did they thought he was dead and the woman he truly loved up untill the Scent of roses episode kept coming and going out of his life and he could do nothing about it. I think he needed a meaning and a purpose in life otherwise he had nothing.

But the point is Devon playing God in his life to go to functions for FLAG crossed a line. Both men should had understood one another.

To be honest, I think you're giving Devon far too little credit. What we have in Michael Knight is a man who has lost literally everything. He went from being resigned to the fact he wouldn't even be able to seek justice/revenge, to being granted the most fantastic gift a man in his position could ever receive; a name and face with no history, and a virtually indestructible partner to protect him.

But what about Michael's mental wellbeing once Tanya's dead? After all, even though he's taken on Wilton Knight's dream, he's still lost everything. Enter Devon, giving Michael missions with strict guidelines of adherence that he knows Michael will need to rebel against. Devon in effect gives Michael what he needs the most in those early months, a sparring partner and adversarial outlet.

You'll also note that when Michael makes a genuine case against one of Devon's plans, that Devon has a tendency to acquiesce to Michael's wishes. This in itself is a sign of Devon's understanding of the evolving role he's playing in Michael's life as we enter the later months of the first season.

True but still despite meaning well. Sometimes Devon crossed a line. And at times, needed to be told no. As really that is what I have a bit of in real life. People who do not take no for an answer and needs a dose of reality. And can't have it their way all the time. He was the boss. But at times, wished Michael in one episode could had let Devon realize all of being all work and no play could make you miserable.

Wilton if he were alive would had sided with Michael and told Devon to stand down at times. Let Michael have a chance at life. Remember when he was on the road for sixteen days straight without a break and not knowing that Devon was going to get him to Stevie. And then Michael attitude suddenly changed when he found her.

Sometimes Devon needed to understand along with the FLAG staff that Michael was a human being. Could not come and go as hie pleased like KITT!. That is my point there. KITT was a car but had humanity there. Michael had to rest and get a life despite a new name and face.

Both men should had really talked about trust issues. As well as not crossing a line with one another. Something the show missed in an otherwise great show.

Another thing I did not like when Bonnie came back when she and Michael were forced into a charity thing in season 3. Really they both should had ganged up on Devon and told him flat out thanks but no thanks. Really Devon was a friend but still he crossed a line in their private time. And no matter what the FLAG board said, Bonnie and Michael should let that be a day off and not for them to infringe.

I think you're forgetting who Wilton Knight, Devon's mentor stood for. He always said that One man can make a difference. He even made Kitt's dominant program be the preservation of human life. F.L.A.G. stood for people who care to change the lives of others for the better. That means supporting charitable and noble causes. It means giving of yourself to help others around you.

You're also forgetting that Devon did recommend putting Michael in touch with his travel agent in season 1 episode white rock to "rejuvenate the tissues" as he put it. In season 4 episode many happy returns, he also suggested Michael use the foundation beach house. I'm sure Devon gave Michael some downtime or he wouldn't have been an effective operative.

Yeah indeed but still he could not come and go as he pleases like KITT. KITT may have feelings as a machine. But still Micheal was a human being. You are right about that.

"KITT could come and go as he pleased." Not sure I follow what that means.

Meaning that KITT is a car and can do whatever the car can do and not sleep or whatever. But Michael was a human being as he needed rest and Devon really put a lot on him.

Oh...like this one scene where Michael comments that sleeping in Kitt is better then a good night's motel rest. (Or something like that.) Those really got to be some comfortable seats to earn such praise.

Yeah something like that. And plus it saves him from that of money at a hotel. Unless FLAG covers those costs.

Well, I should hope so. After all, 'Michael Knight' doesn't exactly have a day job, per say. At least, the 'ATM' is within arm's reach.

Hard to remember such a momentary detail. But in the pilot, didn't Devon hand Michael a set of personalized cards. Say...driver's license, ID...credit card?

Yeah he did. He does not exist I agree. But really remembered that Devon did not give him off as he says in the second time he saw Stevie his fiancee turned very brief wife, sixteen days without rest. Devon really just acted like a jerk. over on it. I mean sixteen days no rest would drive a person nuts.

This show really need if you will for continuity errors because in one episode of Not a Drop to Drin, you get to hear Michael say the seats are very comfortable and better than ahotel room. In season 2 you have the episode a Knight in Shining Armor and in that episode, he complains about sleeping in kitt will make him feel like a folded pretzel.

What it really comes down to is that Devon played God in Bonnie and Michael's lives. And in the process in the like showing up for a charity thing in the mandatory. And in the latter years, Michael going to the beach and not wanting to attend stuff. As really Devon crossed a line. And really both Michael and Bonnie should had ganged up on him.
Remembered when Bonnie moved into an apartment to have a life and maybe felt Devon when it came to their private lives, not to let FLAG be their lives. As there is a difference between a personal and a public life. IMHO, Devon never had a life it seems. As FLAG consumed him
Wished there was an episode where Michael would had taken him on vacation to get a better feel of a life.

Also one pet peeve is Devon played God in Michael's life. And Michael was forced to attend functions. And really think that Devon crossed a line where Michael had a day off remember when Bonnie came on back? To attend a dumb charity thing. Yes FLAG stood for that of in the giving of yourself. But you needed to have a private life.

To me Devon needed to not be such a hard*ss on people. And in the process needed to be not so uncompormising. Sure he had the best interests at heart. But at times I wonder why Michael did not go to the higher ups about Devon? Yes he may not have had a say. But he really needed to also be a human being. Devon at times treated Michael as a thing and not a human being with feelings.
