I just emailed Hot Wheels again. I am really crossing my fingers that this model will be released. I was told that it would be out Q1 this year and we are now into Q3 and no news heard (none from SDCC?).

To be honest I really can't wait. But since now I have moved to Scandinavia, I am not sure where I can buy this at a decent price.

Bad news folks. Mattel have scrapped the talking super elite KITT according to http://www.supercar1.com/catalog/index. ... ts_id=6302

That's nearly 3 years wasted waiting for it! Not a happy bunny right now.

I've been holding off purchasing the regular Elite K.I.T.T. waiting for this version. No way I was going to double dip. Oh, well, at least I've owned the Elite K.A.R.R. all this time...

I wish there was some official announcement at Hotwheels Elite website if it's canceled or not but there's no mention of cancellation at the KITT page:
http://www.hotwheels-elite.com/model-ca ... ousand.php
Nothing in the news section either:
http://www.hotwheels-elite.com/70/news.php

There's other online modelshops which are hinting about Mattel Heritage version of KITT coming next:
http://www.modellauto18.de/kitt-knight- ... 15109.html
http://www.diecastcompany.nl/article/hwmvBLY60

I'm still hoping the Super Elite KITT would be released at some point.

Heritage version has started hitting some of the eBay sellers in North America. Heavily cut down from the Elite - it only has opening doors and T-Tops. Hood, trunk, headlamps all sealed shut, no red light in the nose, many of the dashboard buttons are left unpainted, no Knight logo on the steering wheel etc. Does have the slightly improved tyres from KARR though.

I've seen nothing to suggest the Super Elite has been cancelled - all the big retailers still list it for pre-order. In two weeks the annual Nuremberg Toy Fair is on, which might give us some clues, although from memory, Hot Wheels Elite weren't exhibiting there last year after they lost the Ferrari licence.

This "Heritage" model seems totally pointless, why even even make it?

Money, is the simple answer.

Releasing models at different price tags with different levels of detail means there's a release for every collector's budget, it allows them maximum return on the same basic moulds and that in turn means they also get the biggest return on their investment for the film and TV car licences, which I dare say aren't cheap.

They've already released 'Heritage' versions of both the A-Team van and the Ghostbusters Ecto1, which seemingly have sold very well, and I've lost track of the number of variations they've released of the 1989 and 1966 Batmobiles, which must surely be approaching double figures.

Anyone notice that this entry has nearly eleven thousand views? I didn't even think the site had a hundred viewers, these days. Spam bots, me ponders.

Speaking of spam bots, Sony has programmed some great ones to boost the ratings for the new ghostbusters movie. They give great comments since everyone else seems to have negative reviews on the new trailer.

Sadly, the Super Elite KITT, and a few other products, never got produced. A small run of pre-production samples were made and that's as close as it got. The vendor went out of business, and it appears that someone is now selling those unfinished pieces straight out of China. you can see them here:

https://www.tmall.com/mlist/regular_Z8u ... &wh_page=1

I wouldn't buy them... you'd be buying stolen goods. just sharing the link so you can see them

Coming up on Ebay.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Hot-Wheels-Sup ... 1438.l2649

Looks like the backseat is gone and you get a base. Are these prototypes then? I wonder if Mattel just sold these to this company? Ill be asking my Mattel guys about this also.

I can dare to dream of what it might be like to totally build a scale model Kitt. Not sure how small one could go. But, I'd 3D print as much as possible. Throw in a Raspberry Pi (or some other micro chip computer) to run the thing. Drive motors and gears for forward/backward motion. A stepper motor for steering. Maybe some basic sensors and programming for it to self drive. I think a Pi could handle MP3's to give it show quality clips to talk with. Really reaching might even be a voice interface for some base level programming interaction. Dare to dream, indeed.

Nuremberg toyfair 2020 is currently going on and someone posted two photos in IXO manufacturer's gallery of KITT model that looks like it's 1/18 scale. No information at all what features it has but here's the links for pics:

Found it from IXO's facebook gallery as well:

Thanks for the pics Kittfan. Looks really nice. I especially like the details to the wheels. Nose might a bit too long for a season 1/2. I'm surprised they have the small loop on the headrest for the seatbelts. Looks better than the hotwheels edition. Hope it ends up approved for mass production.

It's actually huge 1:8th scale - the cars on the top shelf of that display case are 1:18th scale. Given the dimensions of a standard Trans-Am, at 1:8th scale it would be around 61cm (24 inches) in length.

It seems like it will be released as a kit in a weekly part-work magazine. It has been trialled in France already: http://mesnumeros1.eklablog.com/n-1-mon ... a148622100

At the toy fair last year, IXO were displaying a 1:8th scale Ecto 1 from Ghostbusters. That has just been released in the UK and US as of last month, to the best of my knowledge. I keep getting adverts for it on Instagram! On that basis, maybe KITT will be released in Jan 2021?

It won't be cheap though - it'll probably take 2 years to collect all the parts, and set you back around $40-50 a month for that period.

Here's the link to the Ecto 1 model - https://en-gb.eaglemoss.com/hero-collec ... gJNIvD_BwE

I'm interested in that as well, it's sometimes I've been waiting for! Plus, right now, I work in Russia where it's sometimes difficult to order from abroad (many shops don't want to send there, and it may be troublesome to use Paypal) but I'll soon have a perfect place to order models from... at one of these houses in Greece.

Seems that the Knight Rider partwork model has also started in Germany as someone has made videos about it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHqRdmMDAao

Too expensive for me and I don't have the space either for such a big KITT model but sure it would be nice one when finished :)
